The Bell at Ramsbury

Fantastic! We held my Father's 90th birthday party at the bell. Lunch for 20 in the restaurant, preceded by a canapé reception. The food was delicious, the staff exceptional and an excellent selection of wines. The team at The Bell helped us plan this special event over the last 3 months and cannot be faulted. Thank you for maling it so easy for us.

Stayed 2 nights mid week with my partner for a much needed break away. All of the staff are extremely friendly and the service is excellent. Despite my booking not going through from a hotel booking website the team at the Bell welcomed us in for the two nights (thankfully there was a room available). Our room was located in the main building and was extremely clean and comfortable. All of the toiletries are provided in rooms and are really lovely. We ate in the restaurant both nights. The food is excellent and the chef changes the menu regularly to fit with local produce from the Ramsbury estate. Breakfast each morning was also excellent, with a choice of pastries, fruit and yoghurt, lovely fresh juices and cooked to order breakfast dishes. We really could not fault anything and will certainly be returning. It's not often you find such a perfect gem in a beautiful location with amazing food and wonderful staff and service.

Went for a catch up with old friends over a light lunch, which frankly for what was on the plate, it was not very good value and was disappointing..well short of expectations from a previous visit.The staff were helpful and pleasant, but I won't be going again anywhen soon for more of the same. Decent pub, good food, but at £170 a night hot breakfast should be included,, it’s a pub not the Ritz. The team are friendly and service good. Rooms are well appointed and linen and towels of high quality. A number of reviews here kick off about the lack of a good breakfast included. To be honest at those prices it’s excepted and would cost them almost nothing to produce.

The rooms were very comfortable and seemed to be quite newly refurbished. The menu was good especially the desserts and the service was excellent. The village is very nice with friendly locals, lots of walks around .

Travelled down to The Bell for a two night stay to celebrate my birthday. The journey was pretty awful so we were looking forward to a warm fire, a cold drink and a snack to cheer us up. On arrival there was a small group of staff gathered at the bar who, after a while must have wondered what two people standing in the entrance with two heavy bags wanted, so they checked us in. Room was OK on first impressions (Roebuck, on the ground floor, dog friendly). We headed back to the bar, no food until 6 and it was freezing. The sofas around the only fire were occupied with various laptops and notepads, staff I presume. The fires in the main bar had a note saying they were sorry but they couldn't be lit. A problem with the flue apparently but not to worry, they's have it all sorted come next winter (yes, they did say that). Dinner was pretty good and although still very cold there was a good vibe in the bar (no dogs in the restaurant an FYI). Mostly a good night's sleep with not much traffic overnight (the road runs within a metre of the back of the room) but woken at 6am by a staff members dog in the adjacent ground floor office barking from 6am until 6.30 when I went over to the pub to find someone to come let it out. They did apologise at breakfast and refund a night's stay. The room itself had defective blinds that wouldn't open so the room was quite dark in the morning and I couldn't get to the windows to open and air the room. Overall only an average stay and I'm not sure I'll be going back. My recommendation if you're going; go for an upstairs room. The walks by the River Kennet are awesome as is the scenery. Ramsbury Estate is worth a visit.
