We have traveled for over 30 years throughout Europe – – often trying to stay within a budget. Our experience at Viewfield was exceptional, even if it was more than our normal budget. The beauty and romance of this stately Manor–turned-inn cannot be overstated. The ambience and service was simply excellent, while the entire surroundings made the visit even more special. We highly recommend!

My partner and I stayed here for a couple nights while traveling around Scotland, and we had a 5/5 experience. The staff were lovely, the house & room were beautiful and incredibly clean, the food/dining experience was so special, and the location & grounds were wonderful. A couple highlights that made the Viewfield House really stand out to us: The night before we arrived there, the Viewfield House emailed us to offer dinner to their guests the night we arrived, as they cautioned that Portree restaurants may have limited availability without reservations... So we accepted the offer for dinner and had such a comfortable, welcoming, special & elegant dining experience the first night we arrived! The second thing that made them remarkable was their special amenities such as a laundry room, refrigerating food/drinks for us that we had purchased on our drive, and also offering breakfast & lunch to-go (I believe lunch was an additional cost but minimal) since we had to check out early our last day to get on the road. I will never forget this place. Thank you, Viewfield House! -Margaret & Mike

Very nice and friendly atmosphere - lots of rooms to sit and relax. The place was old and tired, though and they have a lot of rules! They only serve breakfast and "pies" for dinner so make other restaurant plans. They tell you town is a 10 minute walk but it is actually 25-30 minutes!

We really enjoyed our stay at Viewfield House. The house has been in the family for a long time and was full of weird, quirky objects collected by the ancestors. There are also several nice sitting areas, so you don't need to stay in your room if you want to relax. We stayed in the accessible room, which had its pluses and minuses. Pluses: It's on the first floor which means you don't have to carry your suitcases up the stairs. Staff and laundry are easy to reach. Cons: You can hear everything happening at the reception desk. The accessible bathroom looks like something you'd find in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. And also functions like a 1980s hospital bathroom. Breakfast was fine. The host makes a point of stopping at every table to say hello. But that's pretty much it, unless you're from the UK, in which case he'll talk with you for as long as you like. It really is necessary to book Portree restaurants in advance. We didn't have a reservation our first night so we opted for the Viewfield House pie dinner. The pies were good, but very tiny and came with a minuscule amount of greens and a mountain of steamed potatoes. If you decide to get the dinner and don't want to fill up on potatoes, it might be a good idea to bring a supplemental snack. Finally, the staff at Viewfield House is hardworking, energetic and friendly. We couldn't have asked for more.

Lovely property that is rustic and charming. Like many inns in GB, they use a confusing reservation system in addition to communicating with the owner. They will state they will not book less than two nights, but will if faced with an unbooked room. If you're booking several rooms, be EXTREMELY careful about the booking. Triple check in writing with the owner Iona, spelling out numerous times what you believe your booking to be because if there is a mistake or confusion, you will pay for it like we did, and be shamed for it. Don't ruin your trip to Portree with a bungled reservation like what happened to us. There are other lovely, professionally run inns in Portree where our friends stayed.

Loved the week we spent at Viewfield House. The house could rival a museum with all the period pieces in the public rooms and halls, and in our room. There were so many items of which I wish I had asked questions... but where to start? We had an incredible accommodation/room (#3). Everyone was kind and fun to speak with. Breakfast was a treat, but also sign-up for the optional dinner (various homemade pot pies available). We loved exploring the Isle of Skye so unfortunately we missed the afternoon gatherings and wine... our loss. Viewfield is a short walk to downtown Portree... down the driveway/hill and along the road. We had a great experience... stars to Iona, hugs to Katie and special shout-out to Audrey (great recommendations in Edinburgh). GREAT experience.

We traveled with a family group and booked 6 rooms. Everyone was pleased with the room they reserved. The overall experience was more than we expected. Iona, Jasper, and staff were welcoming and attentive. They even set the breakfast table for 12, our family size group. It was a cozy, amazing experience and we plan to go back to Isle of Skye and will not stay anywhere else. VIEWFIELD HOUSE is a must stay.

Viewfield house was a charming country hotel. I stayed in room 2. The room was very charming and clean, looking out to a green side garden. The bathroom was modern, clean with both a bathtub and a shower. There were charging outlet next to the bed. There were coffee, tea and a kettle in the room. Breakfast was good. Dinner was alright, with limited choice but a good option to stay in. The hotel ground was beautiful. The location was not bad, 10 mins walk to town along the water. The walk was pleasant back and forth to town. I did not mind that. On hard rainy day, a taxi ride from the town center to the hotel cost 5 pounds (very decent). There were a lot of restaurants in town. However I only ate at one , several times, which took walk-in: Cuchullin. The afternoon tea for extra charge was good . The staffs were helpful and friendly. I was lucky to have 1 clear day to go out sailing with Jasper and 2 lovely ladies. Portree is a very beautiful town. Viewfield house was a beautiful place to stay. Rate was fair. Service was excellent. Inquiries through email were always responded promptly. I will stay there again should I return to Portree.

Wonderful stay! We stayed in the Tack Room in the former stables, next to the main house. We loved relaxing by the fireplace in the evenings with a beer, wine, or whiskey, and got to chat with several other guests each day. They offer lots of breakfast options, and we really appreciated being able to eat dinner there in the evenings because the restaurants in Portree are often full. They have a coin washer & dryer which was really handy when we hit the halfway point on our trip.
