This was not our first stay here, so we knew this wasn’t a typical “chain” hotel, which is what we like. However, this little place has gone WAY down hill. Stepping into the room (102) the initial impression was great. Overall the room appeared clean. We brought in our bags and proceeded to get comfortable after a long day on the road. The first problem we discovered, was an almost empty roll of toilet paper. No problem, I walked over to the office and the girl at the desk gave me another roll. Next issue I had, was also in the bathroom. While putting the newly acquired TP in there, I heard the water drip in the tub, so I pulled back curtain and found, a dirty tub. As in, hair in the tub that was not mine or my husband’s. Well, that’s gross. Good thing we showered that morning and would be in our own home the following day, cause I’m not about to step in there. Issue number 3, was a cracked/broken outlet by the sink. Don’t even think about plugging up a hairdryer in it. Issue number 4, dead bugs on the floor. Obviously they don’t bother to sweep. Along with floor issues, was the cracked and broken “chunk” on the floor. That’s a liability if someone cuts their foot on it. Issue number 5, happened the next morning. It was nice to have a coffee pot in the room, however, cups to drink it out of would be a good idea. So, off to the office I went this morning for cups. Only to find, the office doesn’t open until 9:00 am?! It was 8:15 so we attempted to drink coffee out of our 40oz water tumblers. Issue number 6, they advertise a “free breakfast”. Once the office opened, I went back to it and asked about the breakfast. I was told “it’s in your room, in the basket”. The only items in the basket, was decaf coffee, a packet of hot chocolate, 2 tea bags, and some plastic forks. I was offered my choice of a honey bun, small pack of doughnuts, or a packet of instant oatmeal. Issue number 7, I had pulled the desk chair out to eat the stale honey bun and had it facing the door. My husband opened the door to take our bag out, and I saw something right under the edge of the bed. Finger nails! Apparently a former guest had peeled off their acrylic nails and with the lack of housekeeping, they were still there. This is such a cute “lodge” but its lack of housekeeping is definitely the downfall. While I’m not a fan of the big chain hotels, that’s where my money is going next time we are in Poplar Bluff.
