This was difficult to rate as we started with a very poor experience but finished with an exceptional one. We arrived after the free speedboat transfer finished (7pm) so followed vague instructions to get a public longboat crossing. We really struggled to find anyone and the hotel instructions were very poor, so it took a while, and was stressful. Once collected by a tuk-tuk that the ferryman arranged we literally came through the back of the property through the workshops, desalination plant and sewerage area. Not a great start. Reception was slow, disorganised, and just looked like a temporary table set out under cover outside. We started feeling this is not the 5 star we’d booked and paid for. Upon entering our villa, the place just looked a little tired - stains in the sink, bath, sofa and outside loungers. A check with the brochure pictures and it was clear that the images were from new, not a true representation of today. Our first evenings meal at their Eat restaurant, turned out to be a disaster. 30 mins after order the wine finally arrived, 1 hour 20 mins after the order, food finally arrived and was incorrect. We requested a meeting with the manager the following day. ‘F’ was our assigned host who looked after us via WhatsApp messaging, and she did a fabulous job under difficult circumstances. We discussed the issues with a very caring and pleasant manager, and from this point on after our complaint they couldn’t be more helpful. Needless to say we enjoyed a fantastic spa massage, cycling and a comp’d dinner which was very good. And I can’t praise them enough for the way they pulled a grim experience into a great one, latterly during the stay. F looked after us so well and nothing was too much trouble. She was fantastic. In summary, it’s not a 5 star resort, and you’re pretty trapped as there’s nothing else around unless you go to the mainland. That said if you’re ok with some bits a little shabby, it makes a great break, I’d guess not ideal for children.
