We went on our annual fall bike ride and wanted to avoid the crowded Root River trail near Lanesboro. Unfortunately we got the coldest and rainiest weekend of the fall. The saving grace was the Wenneson Historic Inn in Peterson. We stayed in the skillfully renovated bank building, about a block from the inn, named Pengers Vault. And yes, the shower is in the bank vault. Spotlessly clean and very quiet. The owner Pam gave us a tour of the inn. Beautifully preserved with impressive workmanship. In the evening we walked across the street to the local VFW, had a beer and ate popcorn while watching the Vikings. Friendly local people. Your name gets put in a jar and if a touchdown by the Vikings is made and your name is drawn, you get a free drink. Unfortunately the Vikings had a terrible game. Not a lot of free drinks given out. For breakfast we went to Burdey's Cafe just a few steps away. They specialize in the most wonderful homemade pies. Had to have a slice with breakfast. We will be back, with hopefully better weather, as the bike trail runs right through the town.
