Begadang

Favourite hostel in Indonesia! Our stay was perfect; the food was great, pool area and rooms also good. All the staff are so accommodating and lovely. The owner James was very friendly and helpful too. We had issues with boat cancellations and James was very easy to contact and he made sure to keep reception open until 2am! PJ’s bar on the Bach is also a great asset! Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice and relaxed but sociable stay in Gili Air.

Read this before you book - they play music till midnight everyday!! If you’re in a bungalow, say goodbye to early night sleep after exploring nature. Passive aggressive rude owner (local staff in the kitchen and reception are super lovely though). If you’re coming to Gili Air to chill and explore nature beauty, or if you’re a family, this is probably not the place for you. This is definitely a hostel backpacker vibe like Gili T. Owner was super rude when I asked them to turn the music quieter at 9:50pm. It wasn’t slow evening music, it was loud clubbing music! I got called selfish and “the world doesn’t spin around me”, what kind of customer service attitude is this? I don’t usually leave bad reviews online as I always speak to the management directly if there’s any issues or rook for improvement. But owner doesn’t appreciate feedback in this case. Decent location, nice pool and kitchen, terrible shower pressure it was just dripping, zero soundproof in the bungalow. I checked out 2 nights earlier and found a way more peaceful accommodation on the island for the same price instead.

I can’t fault the staff, they’ve all been wonderful! But what I can’t stress is the noise levels in the huts. I’m aware it’s a hostel/ lively accommodation and that is great, but the banging, the construction, the 5am prep, the chatting, the constant cat screams, it does get a lot so definitely bring ear plugs! We got told quiet time starts at midnight but for how long this lasts I’m not sure as we had a 6am wake up call of construction and banging on /or just outside of our hut which isn’t what you expect!! The showers are not efficient in the huts either, we had to go to our friends for a shower (it is a bamboo shoot that simply dribbles water out), it does the trick but adds a good 20 minutes on to your normal shower time!! Apart from that, the food is delicious, the staff are so kind and constantly helpful, and the location it great!

This place is a community spot. You can meet other travelers, get recommendations on things to do, and enjoy great food from their restaurant. You have everything you could want at this place. The staff was always ready to help me out with anything I needed. A great place to stay on the island truly!

We initially chose Begadang as a hotel, because it was the cheapest option on the island on Airbnb. Turns out all the long term expats come here, because its just an amazing, chill and social place to hang out. The food is so good that I had troubles convincing myself to explore other restaurants on the island. I can honestly recommend Begadang as a hotel and a restaurant.

One of my favourite places on Gili Air! From the food to the bar, the sports days and good vibes. Begadang is one of my favourite places to chill on Gili Air. They have awesome and reasonably priced accommodation available, situated over-looking their famous mushroom pool. The owners are super hospitable and present and the staff are so friendly. Another epic thing about this haven is that the service is fast and they offer delivery for those of you who don't want to leave the comforts of your accommodation. If you're hungry and want amazing size portions, I would highly recommend this place! Thank you Begadang for never disappointing!
