The owners were lovely and really welcoming. I needed somewhere reasonably priced before a visit to Skomer and this seemed to fit the bill. My room was a little tired and a little dated. But I could’ve forgiven this except I had a terrible nights sleep. Mainly due to tipsy guests coming back after the pubs closed. Followed by a family of eight spread over different rooms getting up at 4. I can only assume they were meeting onward travel. But they were so loud and moving back and forth between rooms that it made it impossible to sleep. Maybe I just had an unlucky night.

As soon as you arrive you see an amazing view with lovely kept gardens. As soon as you enter you will be amazed at the quirky deco, I want them to decorate for me. There ideas are amazing, Large Guest lounge with a conservatory looking over the estuary, with fridge and microwaves, an added extra you wouldn’t get in most guest houses, easy check in and check out, lovely host who was very friendly and at the same time gave you space and wasn’t to intrusive like some guest house owners. Could not praise the place enough and definitely will be returning and recommending to others.

I don't usually review accommodation as I it's normally exactly what I expected, nothing to say. However we found the *********** photos misleading so I feel I should describe our experience of staying at Lakeland Guest House. Sorry it's long, but if you're thinking of staying I advise that you read it and look at the photos and make sure that it is what you are looking for before booking. EXTERIOR - On arrival, we found a modern brick building with a slighty messy, run down look, i.e. broken garden ornament, garage door that wouldn't shut because of stuff spilling out into the parking area and leant against the boundary wall, old caravan having some kind of repairs done. The porch was decked in artificial Christmas greenery and to us, felt a little odd. INSIDE- the entry hall felt to us like a spooky old stately home. Mounted deer's head on the wall, grandfather clock with no hands, pictures, old furniture and "objets" everywhere (more than in other reviewers' photos), and very dark. There was a plaque saying "Ring for maid service. If no-one comes do it yourself!" which rang fairly true as having sought out a human presence we were given keys and made our own way to our room. OUR ROOM - had a small window overlooking the dock but it was VERY dark! Dark walls, dark furniture. Fake brick wallpaper into which some bygone visitor had scratched a greeting. To us, the furniture all felt and looked old, cheap and dated, from painted (but chipped) 1950s wooden drawer units to a huge (70s?) rotating "Bond villlain" chair. The wardrobe contained a collection of mismatched cheap coathangers. The bedlinen was mismatched and the main double bed was saggy though the mattress on the single bed felt newer. I can't really comment on cleanliness as it was just too dark to see properly, but the polycotton sheets and pillowcases were not ironed and didn't have a washing powder smell and I found myself wondering if they had been previously slept in (see later re. cleanliness). The tea and coffee facilities were good. A full size kettle and plenty of tea and Nescafe coffee. Unfortunately, the milk was those little pots you get in fast food joints but not a biggie. THE BATHROOM - the bathroom was brighter and gave an overall first impression of cleanliness, but the towels were yellowed and one of them stained and the floor edges and more inaccessible areas showed longstanding grime. There were nice little individual Lux soaps and shampoo tubes, but again, everything felt a bit dated, in places very worn and a little eccentric. The shower did work, however, though without a shower tray or barrier, the water rang across the floor to wet the bedroom carpet. SHARED AREAS - the shared sitting room was dark and felt cluttered with loads of old furniture and ornaments which gave an "antique shop" feel to it. Table mats on the dining table were dirty, and the floor also dirty. The room contained a couple of microwaves (a nice touch for guests with takeaway) a

Despite having booked a room by phone, had the booking confirmed by phone and confirmed face to face by a third party, Guess what, no room available after having a 200mile journey to see sick relatives. No apology given by staff and would never even consider booking at Lakeland ever again. Total nightmare.

On the positive side, the proprietors were willing to facilitate arrivals from the ferry in the early hours of the morning. There were other establishments who refused when I enquired. This guest house is very near the ferry port and easy to find. The price was the most reasonable option I could find online. The local Travelodge wanted over £160 for the night! However, on the negative side, I was bewildered to find there wasn’t a fresh set of towels provided, just a heavily soiled one left on the bathroom floor by the toilet. The bed linen was visibly clean, but the duvet smelt of stale sweat. The window only had a fanlight to open which meant ventilation was limited on what was a very warm night. Although the booking app stated there was free WiFi available here, there was no information displayed in the room or in the public area explaining how to access the connection. Contact with the staff was only available via phone; it was a case of leave your key on the counter as you go. Rather impersonal. No breakfast available either.

We had a lovely welcome from the owner. the room was beautifully decorated, warm and cosy. Location is gorgeous, fantastic view to look out onto. Guest lounge with balcony to relax and look out from. Sadly thin walls meant we could hear the television in the room next door late into the night. Floors very loud, you can hear everyone walking around and the sound of other occupants using the toilet, and you could hear exactly what they were doing into that loo! No breakfast which is a shame as I had read online that breakfast was provided, but this is not the end of the world. Strange musty dog smell in the hallways too.

Excellent guesthouse. Great location to proximity of port and town Centre. Proprietor Mal was attentive, friendly and welcoming. Rooms were very well appointed and comfortable. Great amenities in the room. Coffee making facilities, fridge and microwave. Shower was excellent too. Will be back. Thank you.
