The Windmill Inn

Booked direct and stayed for one night only and in fairness the Landlord did say it was his last available room right up in the attic. It was extremely hot. The light in the bathroom didn't work, blown bulb? One of the draught beers was off and was duly exchanged for a different one. My wife's Katsu curry looked suspiciously like a Chicken Schnitzel (also on the menu) covered in tinned curry sauce and served with luke warm (reheated rice?) Other diners with the same choice were also very unhappy. Continental Breakfast. Seemed to consist of cornflakes and other cereals. Long life Croissants and Pain au Chocolat of indeterminate age sealed in individual plastic wrappers. Various cereal snack bars. Do your own toast. Make your own tea and coffee and get juice from the fridge. No cold meats, cheeses or eggs that one normally sees for a "continental breakfast" The piece de la resistance was the rotten fruit in the fruit bowl. Plums, nectarines and apples all showing signs of age related rot and mould maybe a couple of weeks old. Mentioned this to the landlord whose only reaction was to say Oh, that's not very good. We just had coffee and left. We are not usually given to complaining but in this case we make the exception. Our bill for room and food was just shy of £200 and apart from the location definately not worth the money

Review of restaurant only. The food was fine, but we found the menu a little limited. The starters were all unknown territory and the promised specials board of mains wasn't available, so I fell back to steak, which always seems a cop-out. Service was rather casual; you get handed a plate by the server, for you to take and put down at your place. It was also extremely rowdy (on a busy night). Parking is desperate: you park on the road 100 yards away -- no disabled spaces obvs. The killer was this: we ended up with Americanos and cold milk; we got charged 30p for the milk!! Thirty pence each!!

If you like staying in friendly pubs with good beer and good food stay here. Rooms are comfortable and the staff (and locals) friendly. Neighbourhood is a small quiet village. Second time we have stayed. Thirty minutes away from noisy Brighton by car. There is something delightful about arriving in a warm pub on a dark cold winters evening.

Lovely country pub, friendly staff, good food and a good-size, clean bedroom. I am already looking forward to my next visit!

Booked dinner b&b here and were so disappointed. First off the beer was flat and the staff seemed unsure why, then they admitted all the hand pumped beer was off. The dinner menu was ok & the food average. The room was very small and hot, the shower tiny , but the worst was the “breakfast”. Unavailable until after 8.30 - odd since it was self service and almost everything was wrapped in plastic. Even the coffee from the machine was awful.

Delightful pub with lots of character, nice rooms, good food / drink and a tranquil setting. A real hidden gem in the English countryside. Efficient booking not withstanding various changes we had to make due to changing family plans. Thoroughly recommended!
