We checked into the painswick for 1 night, and the 2nd night at the sister hotel, the calcot. First impressions were good, and when we were upgraded to a nicer room with fantastic views and a great bathroom we were even more pleased. Service was casual but attentive ( in a good way). The hotel had bags of character and Cotswold charm....beautifully furnished and very atmospheric and cosy. Lovely toiletries as well. Food at dinner was excellent, as was breakfast. Not a great deal to do in this tiny village, but if you want a quiet country night away you could do worse than stay here.

Afternoon to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Food was divine!!! The afternoon tea was full of flavour, beautifully presented and delicious. The gluten & dairy free option was amazing. Truly cannot wait to return. Only slight niggle was the lack of comfy/cosy chairs.

Visited for afternoon tea. Gorgeous corner cosy table for four, wonderful service and honestly the selection and quality of food ever experienced and at my mature age have stayed and eaten all around the world in some of the finest . So the award for afternoon tea goes to The Painswick, faultless. Standout might have been the scotch eggs or was it the amazing scone#, simply Devine. Thank you.

Afternoon tea a the painswick hotel was a delight on a grotty Sunday afternoon , excellent selection of savoury and sweet a the perfect scotch eggs, a nice cozy room with an open fire , friendly service , a nice afternoon treat, the painswick hotel is a gem on our door step, always a nice experience

Lovely hotel, spacious rooms, great bathrooms and the breakfast is very tasty too! Staff were friendly but were quite aloof at times. Not the friendliest in the bar, and they could ignore you. Great views Parking spaces are tight, but this was expected by reading the website. I would guess it fills up early, street parking is possible but the roads are narrow beig in the picturesque town of Painswick ! Evening meals are a little limited for vegetarian, but all good. It was easy to be disturbed in the room by people passing by on the stairs making noise at night time with other doors closing and everything but it does settle down. Drinks were a little on the expected side side, as was the menu in the restaurant due to captive market of the hotel guests I guess.

We stayed at the Painswick for two nights, in a wonderful room but the real treat was the food. The first night we had the sharing plates which were delicious especially the artichokes and also the croquets!! Based on that initial experience we tried the tasting menu the following night. The chef is an absolute star, all his dishes were superb . I would definitely recommend the restaurant and hotel. We will be back!!

Firstly, this is a very good hotel with good service despite my average score. We had a comfortable room, plenty of space etc. We arrived at slightly earlier check-in time, which was not a problem, had arrived slightly dishevelled as we had been for quite a long walk and got caught by the rain. We were so glad to make use of our room & keen to make ourselves a hot drink. Therein, the problem started. The coffee machine did not work at all (we have exactly the same one at home & therefore understood how to operate etc). We reported it and a nice young lady came to take a look. Still no joy. The same lady kindly fetched another identical machine to try and that one also did not work. We asked if we could have some instant coffee but was told no. We were forced to go downstairs & pay for 2 coffees. I find it completely unacceptable that no one could sort this problem for us or indeed, bother with us at all after I had reported it. It left rather a sour taste for me.

I couldn’t rate this place more highly! We had an afternoon tea for 7 people and they bent over backwards to support us with dietary requirements and were so helpful! The afternoon tea itself was incredible and if you’ve not tried their scotch eggs - you must! They are simply incredible. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

Wow! What a stay! From the moment we were greeted to the moment we left, we were cared for completely! Every last detail was thought of… even some freshly baked biscuits in the room! We were lucky enough to stay in the Lodgemoor Room which had a lovely roll-top bath and a four poster bed. The staff were lovely enough to help with any queries and there was always someone friendly to hand if you needed them. The bar was phenomenal - with drinks upon request and an extensive list of Painswick cocktails to choose from! We spent some of our evening enjoying the complementary pool table - with our cocktails in hand! The food! Wow! From the small plates that were so rich and delicious to the big full English breakfast.. everything was cooked to perfection! Could not fault our stay at all! Will definitely be staying again!
