I've stayed here a couple of times, but this time, it fell way below expectations and previous experience. It started with the sullen lady on reception and the supervisor/boss who was on the desk with her. I stood there waiting for someone to acknowledge me. He mumbled something, she did nothing. He mumbled something else. She looked at me, waiting for me to say something. I said I wanted to check in. Her response "name". After several minutes, she mumbled to the man (who was not serving the queue behind me). He didn't hear what she said. She mumbled again. It appears she didn't know his name or how to address him, or she just didn't have any communication skills. It transpired eventually that I had not been allocated a room. In the end, I was given a quad room on the ground floor (room 2). I asked where yo sign in for parking, she mumbled something about it being outside. I had to ask twice again to get a proper answer out of her. The machine was a pay machine. If I hadn't asked would anyone have said anything? It was not obvious that parking had to be paid for, the machine wasn't actually in the car park. Rubbish! The room had seen better days. Mouldy mastic, rusty fittings, and an ancient looking mirror in the bathroom. Having said that, it was only £45 room only. Ultimately, it was clean, the bed was comfortable, I slept well, the water was hot, and the room had what I needed more or less. The guy that was on reception at check-in out was smiley and nice. The service needs to improve, attention to detail in the rooms needs to improve, and having to pay for parking was a surprise. I didn't have to on previous occasions. That should be made clearer. At £45 it's cheap. If I got that price again, I'd probably stay again. However, I wouldn't pay any more than that.
