Mayhurst Estate

Quiet and calm in a very elegant, beautiful, and comfortable house. Breakfasts were well prepared and tasty. Food was simple, though without choices, just adequate, but without variety and character. Portions were small. No evening treats or cookies, but beverages were available. Unlike other B&Bs where we have stayed the hosts never welcomed us or even appeared for greeting during our two day stay.

We went to Mayhurst Estate to attend a wedding. The grounds are beautiful and the home is very well kept. The room I saw was so quaint and comfortable. They have numerous sitting areas located on each floor. My husband and I had the pleasure of speaking with owner who took the time to educate us on the estate’s history. She was very pleasant and welcoming. I would definitely return here again!

We own and operate two major art schools, Bridgeview in New York City and Blue Ridge in Orange, VA. And we have been hosting our art retreats/plein air painting classes for our students at Mayhurst since 2020, when we moved to Orange, VA. We have had probably a dozen large groups coming there where we rented the whole property for 23 or so persons including singles, couples, large families with children of all ages. One of the biggest draws of our retreats is Mayhurst itself. Our participants have come back on many occasions with us and also on their own after discovering Mayhurst. There are just so many features that draw our visitors to Mayhurst. 1. Historic and beautifully preserved picturesque property with old trees and hedges, paths, a goat farm, a beautiful Monet-like lily pond 2. The personable and hospitable family that owns it. The Cashells will immediately answer to any of your concerns/requests and make sure you feel welcome and happy there. 3. Great place for children to experience true country living, freely run around the property, play with the owners' kids, fish in the pond, and get a lesson in artisan crafts like carpentry, metalsmithing, goat milking etc. 4. Most delicious breakfast cooked by Jason, the owner. We've had groups where half of the people would have various dietary restrictions and the Cashells satisfied all of them, making dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan or vegetarian. The owners go far and beyond in their hospitality. We tried to work with other places in the area and many were excellent, but nothing like Mayhurst. 5. As an add-on Casey is a professional photographer and does beautiful photoshoots for the whole family. Therefore, if you are thinking of having your retreat/master class or reunion in Central Virginia - Mayhurst is your place, no question about it.

My time at Mayhurst is one of my most cherished memories. I had the privilege of staying in the Lincoln suite and it was perfection. Casey and her family made every detail and interaction one filled with love, kindness and genuine friendship. While I was there I was able to attend one of the best retreats I’ve ever experienced. I felt seen, heard and came away with knowledge and a greater passion for living. Thank you Cashell Family for providing a beautiful place a peace and respite.

Very relaxing and peaceful place. Casey was very accommodating and hospitable with lots of helpful information. Breakfast was great! The grounds were wonderful with lots of spaces sit and rest in a hammock.I would definitely stay again.

Picked the Inn due to proximity to a wedding. We stayed in the Farmhouse Cottage. Over-priced! Worst of all, the room was infested with stink bugs. Yes, STINK BUGS! Our daughter stayed in another room in the Inn itself. Her toilet did not work and could not be fixed. Breakfast was over cooked, English muffin so hard you could barely eat it. The bathroom only had one very small mirror+ a shaving mirror. No full length in the room.

We enjoyed the dreamiest of weekends at Mayhurst in mid-September. We stayed for two nights in the Farmhouse Cottage, right behind the main house which was used as the school house for the 8 children of the original owners. The little cottage had everything we could have wanted; plush towels in the bathroom, a kitchenette with electric stove, big farmhouse sink and mini fridge and freezer, board games and cards and a wood burning fireplace. I loved walking the property, petting the goats and our two magnificent breakfasts that were included in our stay. The Mayhurst is truly special - mostly because of the amazing hosts. The Cashel family exemplify true hospitality and I feel so lucky they shared their home with us. I enjoyed myself so much I'm trying to figure out how to run my own Inn!

Fabulous!! From the amazing hosts to the lovingly restored estate, super comfy bed and scrumptious breakfasts, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect birthday weekend. Casey's and Jason's attention to every detail -- from the historically accurate furnishings in every room to the "Martha Stewart-like" focus on making sure every need was met with a warm smile and can-do spirit -- was travel perfection!! We'll be returning with bells on :-)

My husband and I had the pleasure and privilege to take a weekend trip to the Mayhurst Estate. It was absolutely beautiful and it really affected something in our hearts (in large part to Casey who gave us incredible hospitality and even better conversation). We went there just wanting some reprieve from our daily life and left with that and so much more. If you don’t go for the delicious food, stunning scenery, or the kindest people, there’s also goats you can hand feed and one of the friendliest cats I’ve ever snuggled. Could NOT recommend this stay enough!!!
