Our stay at Lochiel was comfortable, though somewhat lacklustre. Perhaps when Lochiel first opened years ago, it was considered to be luxury; however, now it is arguably ‘standard’. We stayed in the one-floor cottage. It was peaceful, and we slept well. The wood fire heater was fantastic, adding to the cosy ambience, and had been set before our arrival. Alan was very accommodating and communicative about our arrival. Disappointingly however was the general appointment of the cottage. The blinds were very dirty, there were cracked tiles around the fireplace, the couch was in a state of disrepair, the oven greasy and dirty, and the windows looked as though they had not been cleaned for months. There’s also no door or screen between the bedroom and the bathroom, and one can see the toilet from the bed. Being luxury (and paying luxury prices), It would have been nice to have fresh milk instead of UHT, and a coffee machine with pods rather than instant. I do understand that Lochiel is a business, though given the standard of other luxury accommodation around in the area, it falls short. With closer attention to detail, replacement and inclusion of items, it could easily become the luxurious getaway it advertises itself to be.
