Solo business traveller in manual wheelchair - disabled review. This hotel is an old building and on a hilly slope. The hotel has tried to add ramps, stair lifts, wheelchair lifts and elevators everywhere. I was very grateful and appreciative of how much effort they tried to put in to bridge the difference in floor levels. In theory, it should be enough as a tick box. In reality, it just didn't work for me in a manual wheelchair. It was unpractical. I think an electric wheelchair would be an easier experience but it was too late to change after flying there. As a competent self propelled wheelchair user, I found the long carpeted ramps so difficult and exhausting. A colleague had to push me, which was embarrassing. The corridors also had thick carpets and this was very hard work in a manual wheelchair. It's like pushing thru mud. The two stair lifts were not working and I was not offered an alternative option. I hobbled up the stairs and my colleagues carried my chair and bags up. This was humiliating and demeaning and did not offer me any dignity on a business trip. The bedroom was ok, with turning space. The bathroom was brilliant. However, putting a sofa in front of the window stopped me from being able to pull the curtains or open the window. It's not been thought through or consulted with occupational health etc. I did not sleep well in room 54 as there was a party in the room next to me, and the room was hot and I couldn't reach the window due to the sofa. The food was excellent. As it was a work trip, we had a corporate buffet option so I can't speak of the menu. The bar was very busy and those with mobility issues, not in a chair would struggle to find a seat. It was packed. The breakfast was good as you would expect at a 4*. The staff were very attentive in offering to help me with food and drinks. The public accessible toilets were only just big enough to turn and little space to transfer, but lots of grab rails. Overall, I did not enjoy my trip as I found that hotel difficult to traverse in a manual chair and constantly needed help from colleagues. This was humiliating and demeaning as their equal co worker on a business trip. I felt so disabled, embarassed and just wanted to leave asap. Constructive feedback to hotel reading this- Thick pile carpet is difficult to use in wheelchairs and esp uphill on ramps. The chair lifts were installed and not tested. Telling me they were newly installed lifts is not an excuse, it put me at a substantial disadvantage under the Equality Act 2010. I was there on business and almost missed the event. I know it's an old building and I appreciate you have tried, but it hasn't worked well for me. Please put a notice and pictures on your website to inform disabled users about what type of equipment to bring. Please make clear there are lots of levels with ramps. It's too late when we arrive to realise we needed additional equipment.

Fantastic local pub and inn. Stayed overnight with the wife. Got there around 330pm. Had a beer at the bar and didn’t leave until around 9pm. Everybody had time to stop and have a chat. Full of characters and just a great atmosphere. Tess runs it and she’s a fantastic lady. Nothing was too much. Chef off but she cooked us some lovely food. Also cooked a great breakfast the following day. Told us so much about the area and the pub. Felt like we were locals by the time we left. We would definitely recommend this pub if you like genuinely nice people. Will be back.
