Blarcreen House

This place was the loveliest stay of many lovely stays we had in Scotland. It is a small manor house down a long one lane road, on the grounds of a historic property that is still actively farmed. Total quiet. The water, the skies and the sheep make you happy to close out the rest of the world. Dierdre and David have created a welcoming and peaceful haven. The perfect, minimal decor focuses your attention out the windows to the ever-changing light and landscape views. The rooms are luxurious and the attention to detail makes you feel blissfully pampered. David serves a spectacular breakfast, and being foodies, they will direct you to Michelin starred restaurants nearby. We just walked. We crossed the fields of sheep and hiked along the lake. I never wanted to leave. Don't stay less than 2-3 full days. It would be such a waste. We felt like family within hours of our arrival. We might go back to Scotland just to visit again, for a much longer stay.

We booked an extra large bed and a lake view. When we arrived we were given a very small bed and bedroom and no view. We complained to the owner that this was not what we booked and she asked us to leave. This left us with no where to go late in the evening.

We will be coming back. Blarcreen is like a secret garden escape. It was beautiful, peaceful, and Ardchattan was absolutely lovely. The room we stayed in was lovely, like stepping into a novel, and the view of Loch Etive was perfection. David was such a lovely host and made us feel so welcome. Of all the places we visited on our Scottish roadtrip, THIS is where we will be returning!

Blarcreen is a little bit of heaven on earth. It is impossible not to relax in this very laid back, but efficient and welcoming house. The room was extremely comfortable, with a four poster bed, a selection of hot drinks and views of the loch and grazing sheep from the double aspect windows. Food, from a magnificent breakfast, complete with home made smoothies, to a delicious dinner was served in a lovely dining room and was completely beyond any form of criticism. Blarcreen is a bit off the beaten track, but this only adds to its charm, with the absence of any traffic noise being an added bonus for any city or town dweller. We cannot recommend Blarcreen enough and will be planning another trip to Scotland where a stay at Blarcreen will play an important part

This is a beautiful house in a superb private location, which feels like it is your own when you stay there. The hosts are very charming and attentive, they are fabulous cooks with creative and delicious menus. The attention to detail is very noticeable, in particular, the dining room with lovely tableware, cut glass and fresh linen, together with a view out over open fields and the loch in the distance. Beds comfortable and bathroom very nice too. 5 star indeed and highly recommended.

We discovered a bit of Heaven. Its name is Blarcreen. Nestled in the countryside east of Oban on the shores of Loch Etive, it is a treasure to behold. Our party of six were greeted like family visitors. We immediately felt warmth and welcome as we toured the home - and with fascination - learned all about its heritage and its tasteful and thoughtful restoration. We might as well had been royalty! The feelings of comfort and security rivaled sitting at a warm fire snuggled in a Fair Isle blanket. (Blarcreen offers a cozy fireplace, too!) The formal dining room is simply wonderful. Our breakfasts and dinner were delightful perfection with elegant settings and linens. Each meal was fresh, inventive and masterful. Host Diedre and her daughter were so gracious with fascinating conversations and exquisite sophistication. Our memories of Blarcreen always bring smiles. There is so much to see and experience. Walk the grounds and you will find a little brook that leads you down a drive to the shores of the magnificent loch. The stunning surrounding mountains are majestic. The views and the gardens are breathtaking. Your eyes will be filled with awe. Want to enjoy the majesty of Scotland all around you? Blarcreen is the place. A grand time was had by all!
