I stayed with a friend at the Grand Canyon Lodge for two nights in late May, my first time there. The lobby area is quite nice, the check-in was quick and efficient, and our cabin was available for us earlier than expected. The cabin location was fine - not one of the cabins near the rim, but also not too close to the road, yet easy to get to from the parking area. The cabin was small and rustic as expected, with two small beds (not the most comfortable, and the pillow was thin, could have used another one), a small desk and chair, and a compact bathroom - there was a second adjacent cabin that shared the same small building. There's no A/C but opening the windows for cross-ventilation and turning on the ceiling fan was fine for keeping the small interior cool enough. There's no TV, limited electrical outlets, and not very good cell reception (there is some reception, but no wi-fi). But all that was pretty much expected for a rustic cabin. The biggest issue was a lack of hot water in the mornings - on the first morning it wasn't ice-cold but not much better than that. I reported that to the front desk and a late-morning shower after a hike was fine, but the water was cold again the next morning, though better than the first morning. Maybe the water heater there was just not sufficient? There's a beautiful lounge area in the main Lodge building with large windows and panoramic views. The lounge leads to a small patio on the north side and a much larger one on the south side. This was an ideal place to relax and enjoy the view with a morning coffee or an afternoon beer. Even though the trail to Bright Angel Point was closed for renovation, there are two nice viewpoints close to the Lodge that are accessed via very short walks. I'm submitting a separate review of the Lodge Dining Room. Their Deli in the Pines was a surprisingly good spot for large and freshly-made sandwiches, pizza, salads, coffee, and a few other items. The Saloon had a relatively small but well-chosen list of beers brewed in Arizona as well as other drinks. There was also a small but nice gift shop and a post office at the Lodge. The National Park North Rim visitor center and gift shop is right next to the Lodge as well. I enjoyed a very relaxing stay at the Grand Canyon Lodge. The only real negative was the lack of hot water at the cabin on both mornings I was there - that was very annoying at the time but in retrospect it didn't detract too much from the overall experience. Despite that glitch that knocked down my rating from five stars to four, I'd gladly stay at the Grand Canyon Lodge again.
