Artful Lodger

This was on ok place for one night. Pros: -friendly greeting -observation deck -parking lot -cookies upon arrival Cons: -uncomfortable mattress and bad pillows -due to us being in the downstairs front room we heard all the street noise and it was LOUD -no AC or fan in the too hot room -no deadbolt or second lock on the door to our room -breakfast isn’t served until 8:30 We were greeted by one host and met gruffly by another the next morning. We went up to the observation deck to check out the views and when we sat down at one of the dining room tables we were abruptly told that breakfast wasn’t until 8:30. When we asked if there was coffee (there was old coffee in the coffee pot in the dining room) we were told it was on the first floor. I just assumed there would be coffee in the dining area. Silly me. Take care, the stairs are steep and narrow. It might be an issue for some. It was ok but we will not return.

Ample parking, great location. Very steep stairs, we stayed on the second floor. Keurig, refrigerator. The innkeeper checked us in then we never saw her again the 3 days we were there, except when she left on her scooter. She left a number to be reached on but what we needed was soap and to refill the refrigerator with water and we did not want to bother her with that. We were encouraged to leave a tip for the room maid but she didn't make the bed, replenish soap or remove dirty dishes. She did put clean towels in which we did not really need. The pillows were horrible and hard and there was not duvet on the comforter. The breakfast was good but they are a stickler on the 8:30 am breakfast time. I went up just to get coffee (because they have a special blend they make) and to look out over the harbor view and I was greeted by"what are you doing here we don't open till 8:30." I explained what I wanted and she said to go downstairs and make a Keurig.

We had a wonderful stay this weekend in The Artful Lodger Inn. Honestly when we booked it we didn’t have much expectations from the photos online, however they do not do this place justice. The rooms were spotless clean, the bed and pillows were very comfy. The welcome cookies on arrival were a lovely treat. We were arriving in late and this was accommodated for us. The breakfast was fantastic and they went above and beyond to do takeout for us as we had an early start Saturday morning. We will definitely be back to stay, this truly is a little gem!
