Holiday Inn Express & Suites Newport South

I stayed at the Holiday Inn express Newport city for three days because my husband is doing repairs on a building that was destroyed in the hurricane. I had multiple people come in my room, a man who was banging at the door while I was sleeping early in the morning came in and said he was getting the towels . I had a housekeeper walk in without knocking, and said she didn’t know anybody was in the room. When I was leaving, I went down to get a cart and came back up to my room. I was having trouble with the old luggage card they have she came into my room and asked if I needed help and started putting bags on my cart. After putting my bags in, I realized I was missing my clutch, So I asked the front desk if I could run back up there and check I couldn’t find it and I left. Three days later my son told me that $250 was put on his card for Smoking. The manager at first said the housekeeper walked in on me smoking, which is untrue, and then he changed it to say Cigarettes and the ashes were found. I told him it was undoubtedly from the last person who stayed. The room was dirty. He told me to call back the next day at 10 AM and I did. The front desk said the manager/owner was not there, and I was unable to speak to housekeeping. He also said that the manager/owner said he was leaving the fee on. The owner/manager also said that he doesn’t do this to everyone. Which was strange I don’t know which is lying, but I will never stay at a Holiday Inn express again.

If we could have changed to another hotel on way back we would have. I think there is only one king suite because we had same room going and coming back. The smell in the room smelled like smoke, appeared to be coming from laundry? Maybe from smokers doing laundry? I know heavy smokers can transfer the smell. When we first arrived at the door there is a line stantion holding down a plastic box with a towel in it. Also I seen a cup of milk on ground. At first I though a child had ice cream and set the cup down and left. But in the morning it made sense. The cup of milk was replaced by a plate of cat food and another dish to drink. On the return trip we seen a couple of cats at the door. Maybe management should move this to the back of the property instead of guests area. The room was only separated with a little three feet wall. I am used to a separate area for a suite. The 6 year old described sleeping on the pull out as worse then sleeping on the ground when camping. The 8 year old said it was super uncomfortable. You have to go down to front desk to get a bag of linen to make up the bed. They shorted us a top sheet and the same upon return trip so I guess you only get a bottom sheet and one pillow. It did not matter because we bring our own pillow. Also, even if 4 in room there is only two towels so another trip to the front desk. Breakfast was worthless. The bagel I pulled out was wet and mushy on one side. Only one type of muffin left. Bread almost gone for toast. The hot water for oatmeal was not even warm enough to cook the instant oatmeal. Coffee was bitter. The 6 year old said the eggs were nasty. On the way through they said pool heater was broken. On the way back it was supposedly fixed but the water felt nearly about 50 degrees. Within 15 mins girls lips were turning blue. Badly needs to be shocked and sandblasted. We have not stayed in Hotel since we had found Airbnb and VRBO‘s. I will have to say that even if I have to incur a have to cleaning fee for spending one night in those I might do that in the future! We had only planned to utilize the hotel because it was for one night passing through and back. However after this I will rethink ever using Holiday Inn again! I remember a time when hotels actually brought you items to your room. I also remember a time that when you needed a pull out bed that would be evident by The total amount of people in your party the pull out bed would already be made up for you. However this is no longer the case. Would never use this hotel again!

Our room was ready when we arrived around 2 hours early and we appreciated this but, we had requested a lower main floor room and the check in front counter female employee stated that there was no room available on this floor and I did not make a big deal about it but, I had made this reservation about a week ahead of time. IHG sent this facility an email stating our request. Usually they accommodate but, I did not see anyone in the facility at my check in time and only a few cars in the parking lot. I was not explained why not available. She placed us on the second floor, which was alright, but it was almost at the end of the hallway and not even near the elevator. She could've at least asked if we wanted to be near the elevator as there is a reason, we wanted a lower floor as our health issue and age. She did thank me for being a Silver Elite Member, no water was given or asked if I wanted one. Maybe HIE does not do this anymore since this was the third HIE that I have been at in the past three days that did not offer any water. She told me about breakfast and stated that there was an issue with their oven that was broken and if we wanted a hot meal then the Hotel across the parking lot would work with them to serve a hot meal to all HIE customers. Cold items were available. You need an oven to cook eggs and sausage, toast or use the pancake machine, etc...? Why wouldn't you call an emergency repair person in to repair it? If I had known this during the reservation, then I would have reserved at another Hotel due to who wants their family to go across the street in the freezing cold to eat when we are paying for this service at HIE that we are staying at? This is why, more than likely, they do not tell you this as why people would avoid staying here, I am sure. We now must deal with how many more customers at the hotel across the parking lot to obtain our breakfast. HIE should give us a discount for this inconvenience and not push us to another Hotel to get it. There is only one elevator in this facility for the entire place for 4 floors. You must use it with everyone, including all the workers. There was worker in the elevator at the same time as us one time we were using the elevator that was talking about work related issues with another person and he had no shoes on and was barefoot. Safety is not a concern here with their workers. Also, when using the door key, it would not let us in our room due to a malfunction as the light did turn green when I slid in the key card, I called the front desk, and the male employee told me to pull the door handle down twice after it turns green. What for? Nobody told me about this when accepting our room. I went to try what he said, but it worked without having to pull down the door handle twice. It is a malfunctioning issue at times and needs to be fixed. I have never had this issue before at any HIE. The bathroom was clean but once again there was no exhaust fan as the bathroom

Our check in was quick and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was great. Easy access from the interstate and many restaurants close by with great choices. We had a bottom floor room and parking in front of the door. Quiet room.

What a terrible experience, IHG has really dropped the ball on this place. I booked a king size suite. Well, I guess a suite comes with a bed and a light, because there is practically nothing else in the room. No chair, no table, no floor lamp. I was told by the staff that IHG went cheap when they remodeled. Did they remodel though, I think not, the bathroom tub has rust stains on the floor is that a remodel? I have every available light turned on and the room is still dark. The Wi-Fi won’t stop trying to connect and then error. The exterior doors to the building won’t open with the room key. There are only 2 luggage carts for something like 40 rooms. I recommend no one ever use the coffee maker in the room it is not clean or sanitized. I can’t stress enough that I am in a suite and it’s this bad. I can’t imagine how the standard rooms are.

Traveling through for a one night stay and was happy with the dbl queen/ with sleeper sofa. So spacious! Beds were great, and enjoyed a late dip in the indoor pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Made a short stay a great experience.
