This onsen experience was incredible. The owner collected us from Tsumago after we had completed the walk from Magome and the following day dropped us back at Nagiso station. The inn is beautifully located in the countryside and most of the property is given over to the guests. The couple only ever have 1 group staying and we took 2 of the rooms. We loved the onsen experience overlooking the waterfall - separate baths for men and women. We were given an absolute feast of fresh meat and vegetables for dinner and a further delicious breakfast the next day. The futon in the bedroom was incredibly comfortable. This really was the most special experience which we would highly recommend. The owner spoke limited English but we enjoyed our conversation with him and the hospitality he and his wife showed.

We spent one night here. We were fetched from Tsumago after walking the Magome - Tsumago trail. The place is very nice. You have plenty of room and you’re the only guests. The dinner was absolutely gorgeous. The couple that own this place are so nice and attentive. The onsen is really amazing. You have a view of the waterfall. We were so in love with the onsen, we went a couple of times. It was a beautiful stay. Highly recommended!

No other word could summarise Takimi Onsen properly except ‘perfect’. When you book, you are guaranteed to be the only guest and full have access to the baths for the duration of your stay. We were collected in Tsumago by the owner and immediately felt welcomed. The onsen is in an amazing forest area and we were lucky that it snowed which made everything feel even more special. Sitting in the bath, overlooking a waterfall with snow falling just added to the perfection. Dinner was prepared by the owners and was amazing, (as was breakfast the next morning). Additionally, when the owner dropped us at Nagiso station after our stay, he gave us some sweet dried persimmons that he’d prepared for us to snack on during our train ride – delicious! Rooms were comfortable and we also had a sitting area attached to the bedroom to relax in. The ambience was incredibly peaceful and the whole experience was once in a lifetime. We cannot thank the owners enough for their hospitality and after walking a section of the Nakasendo trail, staying overnight at Takimi Onsen and unwinding in the bath was perfect.

A wonderful stay at Takimi Onsen Inn. We had the whole place to ourselves with an inside and outside Onsen, and an amazing view of a waterfall. It was very traditional and we wore kimonos during our time there. The staff were very friendly and cooked in front of us Japanese food. They picked us up form the station and returned us FOC. We went hiking in Nagiso and they took us to the start of the trail. A complete chill out place and a great adventure

This is truely an amazing and authentic experience to have when in Japan. Koike and his wife are spectacular hosts. The food was out of this world from green tea and Mochie on arrival to the fire pit dinner on the first night. This was truely a dinner to remember with multiple side dishes including beautiful many local delicacies. Breakfast was incredibly both mornings and was enough to get us through the Nakasendo trail. Dinner on the second night we got to choose between Shabu Shabu or Sukiaki, we chose the Shabu Shabu. This was also a stunning meal and served with many local delicacy dishes and best Kobe beef I have had. I can not recommend this traditional Roykan enough. Such warm and generous hospitality. Amazing nights sleep, and 2 Onsen for you to enjoy at any time day or night. It had snowed a few days before our arrival making it a true winter wonderland.

We stayed with Koike and his wife in their beautiful inn near Nagiso, just off the Nakasendo way. Our visit was very brief - just one night - and specially designed for us to have a taste of the Nakasendo between Magome and Tsugome. Koike picked us up from the Nakatsagawa station and dropped us at Magome, before collecting us from Tsumago. Takimi inn is in a particularly memorable location, with a massive waterfall literally in the back yard of the inn. The inn has been in Koike's family for many years and the original buildings are over a 100 years old. The onsen is fabulous - two steaming cypress baths, one indoors and one outdoors, each with an amazing view of the waterfall. You could spend hours in it! Our room was very warm and comfortable, especially since outside in the morning the temperature was minus 5oC. For dinner, Koike served us a truly wonderful irori meal, cooked over hot coals and featuring an amazing range of delicacies; including wagyu, wild boar and bear. Breakfast was more relaxed, but again featuring really special Nagano delicacies; soy curd, local fruit, pickled vegetables and fish. When it was time to go Koike again drove us to the Nakatsagawa station. Our visit was highly memorable, and so special since it gave us a real insight not only of a wonderful part of the Nakasendo, but an especially important and historic Japanese wilderness area.
