We arrived a few days ago and were excited to return after 5 year’s hiatus. We checked in and got our room we had before in the robinwood cottage. We had stopped for a late lunch so didn’t have dinner the first night. The next morning, we went for the breakfast buffet. It was well picked over and was quite cool as it sits on burners with some lids. A bit disappointing, but a large function had been there moments before and depleted the food. After a round of golf, we had a dinner in the lounge as we wanted to remain casual l it was the best meal. Hubby had short ribs and I had lobster ravioli. Delicious and well taken care of . Next morning, same issue, large crowds and food not up to par for breakfast. I guess buffets are difficult to keep arm and topped up. Dinner that night was hubby’s birthday…I had sent an email and mentioned it in my reservation, so was expecting some kind of recognition, but alas there was none. Dinner was disappointing but it may have just been our meal choices. I didn’t have the nerve to tell the staff. We went away underwhelmed. Next morning, day of departure. Food was not as bad and was warmer but no real changes over the 3 days. No variety! As for the room we stayed in, it was tired. Needs lots of TLC. Dirty rugs, paint peeling on bathroom cupboards, weather stripping peeling on patio doors, overall in need of some attention…I know it’s a cottage but I expected more. I paid a lot so I expect to get what I pay for. Over 2 grand for 3 nights and food was a grand so all in all, we probably won’t go back. I’m sure we won’t be missed as we felt that the corporate party was more important to the hotel than the lowly guest who decided to book a special couple of days away for a birthday celebration. That’s about it folks, you decide what’s best for you but this was our honest opinion of this resort.

The hotel has the feel of an old family favourite that has become a little scruffy round the edges. The location on Lake Joseph is fantastic with a beach and various decks and headlands to sit out. Also a camp fire in the evenings. The rooms and food were adequate. The service was disappointing, both at reception and in the restaurant. More information should be offered at check-in as to the facilities. You need a car to go anywhere but Port Carling is a pleasant little place to visit.

Recently returned from a five night stay over the July 1st long weekend. Stayed in Maplewood King room. Room was fairly comfortable with most of what you might want, airconditioning, plus a good sized bar fridge, however I was taken aback by the nickel and dimeing going on. No mugs for coffee, yet a coffee maker, only paper cups. Plastic covered flimsy plastic cups as well. No obvious signs of trying to be environmentally aware as used soap and towels changed daily, even if hung up again. Had a balcony with two chairs, one in the midst of breaking and a lounge chair like the awful ones on the beach. Why not two lounge chairs if it is a King room? More about the beach later. No table on the balcony or in the room for drinks, etc. One uncomfortable armchair in the room along with a desk chair at the desk, so no comfortable place to sit in the room other than the bed, which was very comfortable indeed. Included bathrobes, which was nice and the towels were plentiful, though did have to ask the maid for face cloths. At the beach towels were provided at a small shack. The lounge chairs were cheap plastic ones with webbing that was sagging or torn on most of them and there were very few, not more than 18 or so. No side tables to put a drink on and no umbrellas for shade. Finding a chair to sit on anywhere outside was a challenge. There were four muskoka chairs on the main dock which could have accommodated many more. No ladder into the water on the main dock, so heaven help anyone who fell in and tried to get out again. There were four chairs on a point overlooking the small bay, though only three on the last day. There were six chairs at the front of the reception where a fire was lit at night to roast marshmallows and make s’mores (ingredients included which was a nice touch). All other dock seating was in front of private rooms, so not everyone could use them. Considering the size of the inn and the number of expected guests, seating was woefully inadequate. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Service in Vintages, or at least the outdoor seating for it, was spotty as a glass of wine that was ordered never appeared despite a repeated request. Had to get it removed from the bill as well. Food was ok but overpriced as is everywhere in Muskoka currently. We had much better meals elsewhere. The grounds were not well kept. The beach was sadly in need of a good raking and cleanup, the pathways needed brushed or raked of tree debris. Grass was growing out of the eavestroughs in front of our balcony which hadn’t been cleaned in awhile apparently. I don't know if all of this is a result of Clublink taking over the property but it is not what one would expect for the price and how it is advertised.

We went there for my birthday. The staff were all wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Food was good - dined in both the Vintages and the Lounge. Shout out to our fantastic server Becca. Stayed in a premium room in the Maplewood Lodge - heads up no elevators but good exercise! Only negative was they never made up our room and we had to ask for more coffee, etc. Not a big deal to us but you might want to ask at check-in if you want your room serviced. Went to the Spa for a facial - it was fantastic! Highly recommend.

Absolutely the best stay I’ve had in a long time. I came for the Mother’s Day weekend and I wish we could stay longer. The staff are truly amazing, especially Shanice and Wes! The food was delicious, we didn’t expect the brunch to have so much options. We’re already looking forward for our next stay here!

Have always wanted to go to the Inn and as it turned out quite disappointed. Positive items were bed room, dinner in lounge, staff Negative items were cost for dinner in the main dining room; would have been more than the room. price for all meals should be reduced by about $5.00 per item. loud people in the lounge having a dinner party. Their noise competed with our sound on the TV, and we were on the second floor. Why can they not have the dinner elsewhere in the Inn. Why have a fire pit at the front entrance? why not at the back near the lake? Breakfast buffet was not hot, and the plates were cold which does not help a warm breakfast. Throughout the night the smell of the fire pit came into the room; not pleasant. very noisey guests coming up to the 2nd floor after midnight then slamming doors; as it is an old structure sound insulation is absent; and quests were plane rude. Was their no night staff to hear this and have them be more quiet? Overall, not a place we would go back for a stay.

We booked one day on October 9th. It was Thanksgiving Monday and it rained the whole day. The Inn is located in Port Carling. Off the beaten path. It has its own beach. There’s cottages that you can book, tennis courts, a spa. My room was a large room on the second floor #208 with a queen bed, leather couch, 3 leather chairs. The view was of the spa directly across. Next time I would like a lake view. I like that the room had a dvd player and you can borrow movies from the front desk. The fridge in our room was a good size and worked well. There’s two large ceiling fans. Apparently there’s no air conditioning. The room has its own heating unit and the room heated up fast. There was 2 phones in the room, bathrobes in the closet. I liked that there was art for sale in the lobby on the walls by local artists. The staff was very friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant but not the breakfast. I would love to visit again when the weather is nicer.

Overall a very pretty location and impressive grounds, which need to be better attended to. We stayed in the main house, rooms ok, bathroom a bit tired (Silicon around bath grey and worn, flacking window paint) Restaurant and bar, service in general is poor, very few of the staff are engaged in service, this must have been due to the end of season period.
