This is a lovely hotel and the most stand out feature is the staff. Whoever selects and trains these people is world class because I’ve never ever in all my travels across Europe and Asia come across such a seamless and perfect team of staff. A real credit to the hotel. From walking into the front door, checking in, the doormen (Amela) taxi hailer (Michael) reception (Meena) Executive (niroshan) were all so friendly and helpful, so welcoming with cool drinks and again Meena who is the glue that holds the whole team together and walks you to your room to check everything is perfect for you. The room was big, very clean and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Our room was cleaned daily by Maduranga who made beautiful towel animals and patterns on our freshly clean bed using towels and flowers. Such a thoughtful and time consuming touch that brought a smile every day. He is discreet and friendly and it was so nice to chat with him, he is a lovely young man and even drove past us one day on the main road and stopped to offer us a free lift back to the hotel. He kept our room impeccably clean and is a perfectionist at his job. Each evening brought live music to the hotel bar and even at breakfast we had a lovely live violinist in the restaurant! Breakfast was delicious, if you order an omelette Thiran from the hot kitchen will remember your order, he also works in evenings and makes a lovely pasta. Shehana & Ashani are at the door to greet you as you walk into the restaurant and are so polite and kind. Always remembering names and where you prefer to be seated. Prasad from the restaurant knows SO much about Sri Lanka’s history and interesting facts, he is a manager and ask him any question about geography or history of Sri Lanka and he will happily tell you all kinds of things, suggestions of where to visit and experiences to try. The food in the restaurant is plentiful, very very tasty and good quality. Always different things to try, ever changing choices and very fresh. Some Sri Lankan dishes, some western, European, American and even Mexican! Every meal was delightful and if you’re too full from all the delicious food to enjoy dessert (their home made coconut macaroons are incredible) just make up a plate of cakes and cookies and the lovely wait staff will have it wrapped and sent up to your room! This was told to me by the lovely Thisaru and we appreciate his kindness. The pool was big, lovely temperature and cleaned every single morning. The hotel bar is stocked with every drink you could possibly want and the bar staff are cheerful and charming (thank you Shameera!) Now lastly - and most importantly for us. One member of staff who will forever be known to us as the best and highest standard of hotel employee I have ever had the privilege to meet. Sangeeth. Keep an eye out for this young man.
