Kalu's Hideaway Udawalawe

Kalu's was such an amazing Hotel to stay at, we did 3 nights to relax and also did an early morning Safari which I highly recommend getting up early for! The hotel organised this for us and the guide was brilliant, had some incredible intimate moments with some young elephants. I can't praise the management and staff enough.. The food was lovely! breakfast, lunch and dinner. As the hotel was quiet for a couple days we even requested a lake fish curry which they happily organised with the chef and got some local freshly made bread to go with it. It was amazing! The owner should be very proud of all his staff but a special mention to Mangala and Sadaruwan! They couldnt do enough for us and giving us great advice with eating the traditional Sri Lankan food how it should be eaten properly. We got 5 star treatment every minute we were there. We will definitely be back when we visit Sri Lanka again in 2026. Thank you for making the end of our holiday so special 😁

Great place to stay for visiting Udawalawe National Park and the Elephant Transit Home. The hotel is lovely with a really warm friendly welcome. Breakfast and dinner were both buffet style with lots of choice - everything we tried was delicious.

Exceptional stay in a hidden gem. Staff were wonderful, dinner was fantastic using local produce from the garden. Rooms very comfortable and pool and terrace area great for chilling. Well worth spending a couple of days R & R here and visiting Udawalawe for a jeep safari.

I stayed with my family in Kalus hideaway. From the get go the smiles of staff and welcoming nature was what truly stayed with us. Chef Peter was amazing and looked after us really well. He was beyond amazing and became a part of our family. The kids got really attached to him and he made their favourite food. Special shout our to Sanjewa Sandaruwan Supun and Susantha. Amazing and always accommodated all our requests. Please take a bow guys and we will be back again.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Kalu's Hideaway. We visited this area to explore the Udawawe National Park in Sri Lanka. We enjoyed the game-watching (especially the elephants) and the incredible variety of bird sightings. The hotel was an excellent example of Sri Lanka's hospitality. The staff are lovely, helpful, and kind. Chef Pete was also outstanding. He came out of the kitchen at meals and made our dinners and Breakfasts to his perfection. We are incredibly grateful for all the attention to detail he gave us. He also brought us to the beautiful gardens that served the hotel and showed us the lovely produce. It was a special personal touch for us.

This place is a hidden gem, it is so peaceful! The staff & management are very welcoming & helpful. The rooms, WOW, they are wonderful, very comfortable bed & great bathroom. The food is mouthwatering. Make sure chief Peter makes you a Sri Lankan (hopper) breakfast. We highly recommend a stay here.
