Lynster House

Excellent accommodation, very comfortable beds, great shower and breakfast was excellent too. Highly recommend and would definitely return. Our host was very helpful and makes delicious brown bread, great atmosphere here! Thank you very much.

Lynster House is really beautiful & extremely clean. It really is top notch accommodation 5 star. Elizabeth is the perfect hostess, so friendly & helpful. She made us feel so at home, recommended local restaurants for diner & made the booing for us.

We spend a lovely few days at Lynster house while attending Monaghan Blues festival 2024. It was our first visit to Liz’s beautiful guest house and it didn’t disappoint. She is a great host offering an array of information on every topic but particularly Monaghan and its music scene. The house was full of artists playing at the festival and music lovers attending. There was a lovely, easy, familiar atmosphere all weekend with lots of laughter and great conversations had by all. Breakfast was plentiful to suit all dietary requirements. We thoroughly enjoyed our few days and shall return. I highly recommend beautiful guest house and its host who is “mad about Monaghan”.

I have stayed in Lynster house on many occasions in the past as I am a frequently booked artist who performs at the blues festival. I have always found Liz the perfect host. I had a great stay at this year’s festival. Liz looked after me getting me in and out of town because she had a system with different drivers. Lynster house is perfectly situated out of the partying town if you need a good nights sleep. It’s only about a 5 minute drive in and out. Perfect. The house is lovely and very tastefully presented with a warm and very friendly atmosphere prevailing. The breakfast is absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked with all the ingredients sourced from within Monaghan. I can honestly whole heartedly recommend a stay at this house at any time of the year. Thank you Liz for another wonderful stay at Lynster House

Before I start let me say I am not in the habit of besmirching anyone's livelihood or reputation, but in this case the host needs to be called out. My wife and I were supposed to be celebrating our wedding anniversary after what was a very difficult year for us. But instead this woman's blatant disregard for her guests, her complete unprofessionalism, her lack of empathy and her lack of basic knowledge of hospitality (like actually being present to meet your guests rather than being in a pub) ruined our weekend. Firstly this place is ridiculously overpriced for what it is..a bog standard bed & breakfast. €175 per night and MILES away from Monaghan town. Sure, the house is nice but far too expensive. We wanted to visit Monaghan for the annual blues festival and I decided (foolishly) to book this place based on the positive reviews. I contacted the host by phone who told me not to worry about transport to and from the town as she would arrange all that for us. She even said she had an "arrangement" with a local taxi. We made our way to Monaghan on the Saturday and after advising the host of our arrival time was surprised to get a message back saying she was in a pub in the town!! I assumed that by the time we arrived she would have been back to greet us but sure enough, the house was completely empty when we arrived. The front door was unlocked so we just walked into the house! We had booked a "Super king ensuite" room with breakfast (of which I can provide confirmation) and the host told us which room was ours. The room we were given was NOT a super king ensuite, but a very pokey triple room with separate bathroom in the hallway. We knew there was nothing else available in the town for that weekend. We waited for almost an hour for the host to come back but she didn't. In that time I sent 2 text messages asking about transport to the town (remember she said she would arrange this) and a message asking about breakfast times. No reply. There was no information about this at the house itself. I then tried to call her twice, first time the call terminated after 3 rings, second time it went to voicemail. I then tried 3 local taxis who all told me there would be a wait of approximately 90 minutes! At that stage we had enough and made the decision to leave. I sent her another text to say how disappointed and dissatisfied we were and that we were leaving. Less than 30 seconds later she rang back and I could hear she was clearly intoxicated. She asked what the problem was and when I told her the response I got was "I got no messages or calls from you. You know what, just forget the whole thing" We couldn't find alternative accommodation for the Saturday and as we live over 2 hours from Monaghan going home wasn't an option, so we were forced to book a room in another town and we ended up missing the festival on Saturday. We arrived early…..really early,,,,,and were welcomed like a long lost friend. The hostess, Elizabeth, is a charming bundle of energy who is Mad about Monaghan County. She knew all the best spots to eat, to see and to enjoy, so we took advantage of her recommendations. The property is a country estate located not far from the Diamond in Monaghan town. The grounds are well laid out, well groomed, so an enjoyment to walk around or just view. The 3 storey estate home has seven lovely bedrooms, some with private baths. Our room was so comfortable and quiet that we slept in the 1st sleep. Very clean! Throughout, the interior is decorated with photos, art, books and music which is a tribute to the eclectic taste of the hostess. We were treated to a full Irish breakfast in a glass atrium style area in view of the large working kitchen and garden. Plenty of homemade brown bread, strong coffee and you have to try Elizabeth’s strawberry-banana smoothies. Large rooms offered a casual atmosphere with a comfortable setting rooms to relax in, read a book or enjoy a chat with other guests.
