This little Mozambique gem, Gala Gala, ticks all the boxes. Bev and Mandy's attention to detail is evident everywhere in this naturally designed eco-lodge. We stayed in one of the 5 luxury campsites, and luxury they are. The sites are authentically reeded, with hot water, lights, and a beautifully mosaic shower, big enough for two. Outside, there's a sink for dishes with hot water and a braai area. The campsites are huge with magnificent trees, and we even had two hornbills and a kingfisher pop in for a visit. There's also a huge pool, which we didn’t get to use this time but will keep in mind for our next visit. The eco-lodge is beautifully laid out, with tropical walkways and fountains where we interrupted a few local birds having a bath. Gala Gala offers dinner and breakfast, pre-booked, and has a quaint pub where you can relax and have a cold one at the end of the day. The eco-lodge also has reeded accommodation, with standard and deluxe options that maintain an upmarket yet authentic feel. We ate at Sapphire Sands, the restaurant attached to Gala Gala, with magnificent views of the sapphire sea and golden sands below. We had the peri peri chicken, chips, and, of course, a local beer to wash it down. This eco-lodge is an escape from the noisy beachfront of Ponta de Oura but is only a 5-minute drive if you want to be part of the action.
