Explorers Retreat Matlock Bath

Booked the pirate room for my birthday son and he loved so much . Clean toilet, downtown many restaurants and supermarkets. no hesitated to recommend to anyone.

We stayed hear for few nights and had booked a family room which was based in a separate section to the main rooms, the rooms were based on wind in the willows and we're really nicely decorated the hotel is closed to Matlock bath and about 10mins stroll from heights of Abraham cable car station free WiFi amenities and tea and coffee Few little things the room we stayed in got stuffy but we couldn't open the window as the latch was about 15feet above us, the rooms were advertised as sound proof but could hear everything going on in the corridors, the beds were doubles but felt little small Aside from that was a nice stay that we enjoyed

The hotel itself is placed in such a beautiful place. Tones of walks which were easy to find, the town below is amazing and so cute. The scenery that you can see as you come out the hotel is just great especially coming from a city, it’s so refreshing. Loved exploring. The room we stayed in was designed lovely, bed was really comfortable, really nice shower and the changes made in each room in terms of theme were really cool. Very clean and felt safe, the staff were also lovely and really helpful and welcoming. In the room there was heating, a TV, kettle etc. Really cozy. Also good amount of parking, it is on a hill though (obviously can’t be helped but be prepared 🤣)

We stayed in the promonarde rooms two adults and two children. You would never thought we was staying in a shipping container very quiet, very clean even the edges of the carpet was hoovers smelt lovely when we walked into the room. Compact be great fun in our room was shower , small tv, hairdryer, tea and cover . 10metre along was another room that contained toaster, microwave, full sink with washing up liquid kitchen . Just up the steps was hotel reception and entertainment room for children did activities at night like kids disco, games room free football table, and Lego table . Above reception is a restaurant though we didn’t eat in there looked nice. We went to the local pub called the fishpond great food and bands on at the weekend. We had two nights first day went round the Gulliver’s park second day we went to heights of Abraham . This place is great for kids we did look at the other rooms but found you got more outdoor space on the promonarde room ie could sit and watch the kids play. There is also a bus you can sleep on that looked great fun too .

The willows was stunning and perfect for families, brand new and spotless. The food and clubhouse were fine for a young family, we had a great time thank you to all the staff who work very hard. Really good value for money including park entrance and food

Lovely venue for kids and adults our stay was lovely and the view over matlock bath beautiful lovely peaceful stay lovely bar and staff who the owners should be proud of spotless absalutely spotless rooms and comfy beds . Well worth a visit, the site occupies the piatza of Sir Joseph Paxtons Palais Royal his first trial run for the Crystal palace at Sydenham part of the piatza still survives and the cariage drive up to it, perhaps a bit more could be made mention of it,

I booked this room on a whim a couple of hours before checking in as a last minute getaway and for the price I wasn’t expecting luxury. On arrival the staff were great. Very friendly and on first glance at seeing what the evening had planned we were already talking about our second trip with our young children. Once we entered the room that decision quickly changed. As I said I was not expecting luxury however basic cleanliness I did expect. The room was not clean at all. The bedside table was filthy. Thick with dirt and dust behind the lamp. Sticky drink patches and someone else’s hair. This almost made me sick. The carpet had most definitely not been hoovered there was bits of chocolate - food sticking out from under the bed - the steps up to the bunk beds were dirty. I didn’t even pull the quilt back in case I discovered anything else so I slept on top of it with my coat. As it was 8pm when we eventually came to the room I was tired and wanted to rest and didn’t want the mither of going over to reception to complain as I can’t see what they could do to solve it other than send a cleaner to clean what I already had. On check out this morning we walked to the car with our bags to go back into reception to hand the key in and a member of staff was shouting us across the car park asking was we room 24, I replied yes, she said we need you to move your car we have a private event coming in. She said il take the door key back for you, she never asked how the stay was etc. I just had to laugh really. Unfortunately we most definitely will not be returning My reason for logging this feedback is to ensure it doesn’t happen to another family. If I had my children with me we would most definitely have left to find somewhere else to stay. This was a last minute break for us, however if this was a pre booked trip as a family it would have been very disappointing.

Lone parent, 3 boys, 12 9 9. Last minute decision for a break over Easter. Stayed in the promenade rooms. Overwhelmed with the experience, room was immaculate and the entertainment included bingo, film, toasting marshmallows. Magik Ash sat with us for 20 minutes performing mind blowing magic. Just an incredible break, can't thank everyone enough
