The Old Lockup

Very unique guesthouse. We stayed here due to an interest in the buildings history and to support a local business. The host was very friendly and the freshly cooked breakfast made to order each morning was very nice. The rooms could do with a little refresh but for the price and location it suited our needs.

Quiet small Victorian hotel with unique set of rooms provides a charming experience. Rooms were very comfortable. Breakfast was cooked to order which is a nice touch alongside the friendly atmosphere. Wirksworth provides sufficient amenities and food outlets to enjoy locally.

We stayed for two nights in the Solicitor's Room at The Old Lockup and it was lovely. The house is old and full of character ( and police memorabilia!). The age of the property means it has odd steps up and down but there are handrails where needed, we're in our seventies and had no problems. Our room was big enough and equipped with everything we needed - particularly appreciated the fridge with fresh milk for our tea - and the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast is cooked to order and offers a good choice. Tim is particularly good at cooking eggs to perfection, we enjoyed the bagels with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. A real treat. There is on street parking plus some space onsite. Wirksworth is a handsome little town and there are great walks from the B&B and a number of places for dinner nearby. Tim is the ideal host - there when needed, unobtrusive otherwise. We can definitely recommend The Old Lockup . .
