My brother held his wedding at this venue. They chose the area because of the beautiful views, the fact that they can hold all the activities on-site and the funky rustic nature of the place. We were able to have the ceremony on Tower Hill, a cocktail hour outside Buck Hall and a reception with dinner at Buck Hall. Those all went pretty smoothly after working around a few things-- very cold rooms with inefficient heaters, unfriendly front-desk staff, no restaurants and little food available on-site, and inconvenient shuffling of people up and down the hill (which was very relevant for the wedding). [see more details below) ----- Transportation was an issue up and down the hill. We were informed that there would be golf carts available to drive people up and down as needed. I never saw the golf cart drive around even once. It was NOT available and we had to drive ourselves instead. This required a lot of shuffling, assigning designated drivers, etc. Many people ended up walking up unlit paths or up the steep road that broke strappy sandals and high heels. It was not convenient and not physically possible for some. The most memorable thing that tainted our entire experience of the place-- is the lady at the front desk. From the very beginning, you get a sense that she doesn't really care or want to help with anything. She had no helpful information on the events for the wedding, no information about the restaurant on-site (which was never open when we were there). The smiles are fake, the warmth is absent. She was not accommodating, kind or helpful in any sense. Maybe she doesn't like people or maybe she just doesn't like her job. As the only point-person for our entire visit, she made a horrible impression. Booking things online is difficult. My father, the father of the groom, booked one night, then went back and booked a second night. This unknowingly moved my parents to a separate room. They were forced to check out, move everything and check in again just before the wedding ceremony. This was difficult as my mother is limited with her mobility. The front-desk lady was rude, not accommodating and very blunt. No compensation or help was offered. The rooms are cold and heaters don't work well. We were freezing and had to wear a lot of clothes. We did not come prepared for this (and we live in San Francisco, so are used to this weather). The windows are single-paned and do not insulate well. The heaters are small ones at the baseboards and are inefficient. Amenities: absolutely lacking given the price of the hotel. Being so isolated, it should have a restaurant on site that IS OPEN for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Where is the jacuzzi, the free breakfast, an available restaurant on site, and kind and helpful front desk staff? Absent on all accounts. Changes need to be made to truly make this place successful.
