Pagua Bay House Oceanfront Cabanas

Pagua Bay was a great find. The staff was friendly, and the accommodations were comfortable. The restaurant is consistently open, which is pretty difficult to find in Dominica. The restaurant runs on "island time," but it is good to slow down at times. Sheldon connected us with a great birdwatching guide. I was sick towards the end of our trip, and I was really hoping to buy some art from the Kalinago tribe. Alicia let me "shop" the rooms for some art, so we didn't have to travel the last day, and gave us a late check out which was greatly appreciated before a long flight home.

The perfect place to visit to melt all your stress away. Sheldon/Alicia/Rick were all amazing and made me feel like my work trip was the excursion of a lifetime. Beautiful sunsets, excellent home-made food (some grown right on the property), and luxurious cabanas all at once! This is an ideal getaway for it all: whether you are on business or planning a romantic trip. -Matt

Beautiful location. The pictures lead you to believe that the resort is on a beach, but it is not. You need to cross the road and walk a little on a busy road. There are no sidewalks. I did not attempt it. The restaurant is lovely and the food delicious. All staff members and proprietors are lovely. To my taste my room was far too dark. You cannot see outside when you are in the room as there are shutters. It felt like I was in a bunker. There is no glass on the windows - shutters and stappled screens only. I also felt that the AC was not sufficient for the size of the room. Of course, these are personal choices, I happen to like light and bright. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom lovely. Large shower. The first night I had a visitor.... a bat.... I called the manager, and security was right there to take care of the situation.

My husband and I spent nearly 2 months at Pagua Bay house while my husband groooved the runway at the airport. Because of his job we have been able to experience hundreds of hotel stays all over the US and several other countries. Rick and Alicia are by far the best hosts we have ever had the pleasure of meeting! Rick even helped my husband with some issues he had come up on his job. They will be happy to organize anything you may want to experience. Whether it be visiting one of the beautiful waterfalls, island tours, whale watching, restaurants, or car rentals, no worries. We stayed longer than the average guest, so we got to meet all their employees. They were all great and we enjoyed talking to them and learning about their lives. Every need we had was taken care of. When Rick and Alicia weren’t there, their trusted manager, Sheldon, watched out for all of our needs. Every employee was a pleasure. If you go to this island you can’t go wrong staying at Pagua Bay House. There’s a beautiful view of the ocean from the cabanas and the restaurant. Our cabana was perfect. The shower was huge and great! Because we were there so long they even provided us with some extra amenities, even laundry service. We would put it outside our door and it would magically appear, clean and folded. If you don’t stay there on your visit make sure you stop in at the restaurant. One of the best on the entire Island. The house made bread, bagels, and buns are excellent. Juices made from local produce…yum! I could go on and on! Someday we would like to return to the island. We made lovely friends that we’ll never forget! (I will miss Gigi and Kiki, the cats, too)

I had an okay time there. Sheldon was very helpful as well as all the staff. Very kind… The food was just okay. Limited choices. In my opinion the bread, pancakes etc had very little flavor. We were also located 1,5 hours each way from many of the places we went which made for long days.

We were greeted by the owner, Alisha, who couldn’t have been nicer. She and a staff member carried our bags to a beautiful suite that included a huge bedroom with the biggest bathroom I’ve ever seen. It had an elevated soaking tub with an ocean view plus we had our own large outdoor sitting area. The pool was clean and cool with an incredible coastline view. After a long rain shower in our room we went to dinner in their restaurant. We were greeted by Sheldon, the manager and had a great conversation. The meal and service were excellent. After a good sleep we were up early to catch our flight and they were right there to get our bags and shuttle us to the airport. The only negative was that the air conditioner didn’t work very well. But the place is beautiful and the people were great. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.
