Banyan Tree B&B Retreat

Beware: this B & B does not in any way match the description or photos on their website. The scum-filled cold water "pool" was a disgusting black pond. The Jacuzzi was sealed off and unavailable. The grounds were totally neglected and unkempt, our porch dirty and unswept. The cottage itself was damp and clammy, with no stove and no heat source. "Breakfast" was: prepackaged instant oatmeal (no milk), a day-old muffin, a hard-boiled egg, and one banana. We arrived late at night in the dark (having let the manager know our scheduled arrival). There was no light, no note, no answering the phone number posted in the office, and no signage on the grounds. We wandered around in the dark and bushes, literally over broken glass and other debris, to find our cottage. Coming from the main highway, we could never find the driveway, because the foliage obscured the entry. There is no light or reflector to mark the entrance. This added extreme stress to our stay. Whatever changes or tragedy may have happened to the management of the Banyan Tree B and B, it is not the same place that it appeared to be five years ago. It is now a neglected and unpleasant place to stay, and I would strongly encourage people to look elsewhere, so as not to be severely disappointed as we were. I have stayed at many B & Bs over the years, and this is undoubtedly the worst experience I have ever had. This accommodation had a huge negative impact on my first trip to Maui.
