Meremeta Lodge

We really enjoyed our stay here. Our room was comfortable and we were happy to have A/C. The only thing we didn't enjoy so much in the room was a bit of a smell coming from the drains in the washroom. There was a nice hammock and comfy couch on the porch. It would have been ideal to have some seating available in the room, as we had to sit on beds in the evening when we were trying to avoid mosquitos after dusk. There were plenty of comfortable couches available in the large open common area where the bar and dining areas were located. The food was excellent. Three course dinner was available for USD $15. They were kind enough to cater to my requests for more veg and no rice/pasta/potato side dishes. With early morning scuba trips, they were happy to pack a sizeable breakfast for me to take along, sending fruit, muffins, pancakes, and omelette depending on your preferences. It was great to enjoy it after a couple of dives to not be underwater with a full stomach. I appreciated the free transfer to the beach as early as 5:30AM, and though we generally walked the 20min back to the lodge each afternoon, they were also happy to go pick up other guests who I went diving with. We appreciated the friendly service, and would certainly stay again. The compound was beautiful with all the trees and flowers.

In February 2024, we had the privilege of staying at Meremeta Lodge. This place exudes authenticity and a true local flavor. The rooms are spacious, clean, and equipped with air conditioning and mosquito nets over the beds, essential features in this region. The meals provided were varied, plentiful, and delicious, and the assistance offered in organizing activities was impeccable. However, what truly makes Meremeta Lodge special is the presence of Mr. Meremeta and his staff. During our stay, we felt at home, welcomed as if we were family. In particular, during an unexpected situation, Mr. Meremeta supported us far beyond his professional duties, with kindness and care that we will never forget. This is a lovely place to have an evening meal. Went there twice during our stay on Mafia Island. The food quality and service was superb. Meremeta is the owner and makes an amazing host. The place is very clean, open aired with fans for cooling.

A sweet little lodge just outside the Park entrance. Mr. Meremeta has delightful bungalows, nice food, lovely garden of hibiscus and bougainvilleas. He provides free bicycles to get around and will deliver you to dive sites every morning. Have stayed with him twice and will again.

Nice bungalows set in a well tended garden. Lovely airy restaurant lounge. The manager was very helpful, including helping us to deal with the airlines which is well above and beyond the call of duty. Location is a 15 minute walk from Utende beach. You can borrow a bike (Meremeta has bikes) or get a tuk-tuk.

Superb! Ideal for a family or couples. We stayed in the double deluxe room. Rooms are surrounded by beautiful lush gardens. Each room has its our outside seating area with seating and hammock fitted with a fan, so ideal to keep the mozzies at bay. Rooms are exceptionally clean, fitted with aircon, roof fan and mosquito nets. The eating area is fitted with fans too, and when you are seated for dinner they light mozzie repellent - however we do suggest applying repellent gel/cream when you move in the outside areas, the entire Mafia island is FULL of mosquitoes. Meremeta and his team is so accommodating, we requested a special dinner one evening, and they completely over delivered, it was DELICIOUS! Whatever you need, they will make it happen! They also offer transfers to and from the airport, and have their own fibre glass boat for tours - I suggest booking through Meremeta, as the tours negotiated on the beach work out much more expensive. We had a great experience! You can settle your account with cash or card. They do not offer scuba diving, but have other tours and snorkeling available.
