Alma do Pico - Nature Residence

Alma do Pico is a gorgeous location to stay for a few days and explore the beautiful island of Pico. The bungalow with a small kitchen was clean and comfortable. There was a dehumidifier available, which was not a luxury at all. The humidity was very high during our stay. We appreciated the fact that there was a drying rack in the bungalow. The bathroom was clean, but the shower lacked a handheld shower head. I was not a big fan of the spring mattress, so I slept not as well as I would have hoped for. Since we were staying in a forest environment we did spot some cockroaches in the bungalow. I guess it is very hard to get rid of these little animals. The bungalow also had a small terrace with some chairs. The wifi sadly was not very good. We could park our car at the reception building and had to walk a few minutes to our bungalow. The breakfast was served at the table in the reception building and was very good. There were different breakfast options available. Alma do Pico also has a laundry service, which was very convenient. The restaurant Atmosfera is very good and the service in general is very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the pool and the beautiful adjoining terrace where we could relax after a day of exploration.

Our stay was amazing! The location of Alma do Pico is great. Just outside of Madalena and super central for all activities on Pico! The staff is amazing and they offer so many nice recommendations. At the reception they have a board with all activities and the best restaurants and opening times. The restaurant at the hotel, Atmosfera, is amazing and serves homemade pasta and beautiful wines. It’s run by a family and they also cater the breakfast at the cabins. You can adjust the breakfast to your own needs but it’s already amazing as it is. Big compliments to the entire restaurant team as they made us feel so welcome!

We stayed at Alma do Pico while exploring Pico for five days. Ines and Hugo were our friendly helpful hosts. The setting is designed to be natural and eco-friendly. Don't expect luxury. The cottages are set amongst the incense trees with exquisite plantings and hard-scaping using the natural lava stones. We enjoyed the local foods at breakfast. The location is somewhat remote. You need a car. The lighting in the cottage is dim making it hard to read. Spend the time exploring the island not reading in the room.

Alma do Pico was for me a wonderful place to stay. I travelled single en beforehand with arranging some things, they advised and helped me very much! During my stay they also were always helpful in giving the perfect information and advice. The staff was very accurate and kind. The accommodation cosy and with enough space. I had even a yoga class during my stay there which was special to be in the midst of the local community during my holidays, and have some extra physical and mental relaxation. What I also appreciate is that they listen careful to their customers to improve their service. And they have a good eye for nature and sustainability what for me is an important aspect. We spent 10 days in this paradise where they pampered us from the moment we arrived until we left. We will never forget the dinner with the sunset view of both the volcano and the sea. It is wonderful to stay in the silence of the incense forest and feel protected and totally disconnected from the daily frenzy. Really thanks Federica and Fabio.

We had originally booked this hotel in 2019 for travel in May 2020. Obviously, our trip was cancelled due to COVID. We only decided to travel again in August 2022 and the hotel held our deposit the whole time. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. The rooms themselves are fairly basic but everything is clean and well set up. The breakfast was very good. You get fruit, bread, cheese and ham but they will also bring eggs or cereal and yoghurt on request as well as excellent coffee. If you are staying while the restaurant is open, book it as soon as possible. Dinner is great. One of the few places in the Azores with good vegetarian options. The best part though about Alma do Pico is the people. On check in, we got a full tour of the facility and a map of the island with their recommendations of what to see and do, very helpful. Everybody there is friendly and helpful.
