VILLA MAÏA

We did not like this hotel. We booked the least expensive room just to check out the hotel for our 2-week stay during the following month. The voiturier was helpful and nice. Our first impression, checking in at the reception desk, however, was bad. We explained to the young woman that we tried to book bed and breakfast on the website and, on the website, we were charged twice for breakfast (or overcharged €76 each day). A manager-type was called and he said there was nothing that could be done. We went to our room and the next day we re-opened the subject with a different receptionist. We walked her through the steps on the website that led to our being overcharged and she understood. The following day, when we were checking out, however, the same receptionist only credited us with one overcharge. We had to explain again. Finally, the bill was corrected. Apparently, the staff is not trained. As for the room, it was small but adequate, with a desk and one comfortable chair. Dimitri used the desk for his laptop. Audre used the comfortable chair and the low table that she brought in from the balcony. It was too low but it worked. The housekeeping team had made the bed the way we described in our Room Personalization document and left us the number of towels we wanted. We had to request a coffee machine but it was brought. We were also brought the humidifier we asked for. The bathroom only had one sink and the vanity was small but we managed. The Toto toilet worked well enough but did not have a heated toilet seat. We brought our small space heater and managed that problem. The first day we went to the hammam and the Jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi was 35° C and uncomfortably cold. We asked for it to be raised and were told that it could not be. Breakfast was a buffet with eggs ordered from the server. The buffet and the server were good. During our stay, we looked at the Panoramic Suite (60 square meters) at over €1000 per day and it was definitely not worth the money. One long room with a sofa at one end and a bed at the other, with a good view. There was only one bathroom and one toilet. It would not have been comfortable for our long stay. For €1000 at Villa Florentine, we booked a two-bedroom, two-bathroom, large and gorgeous apartment (125 sq. meters). Wow, what a difference. Now that is a hotel we would recommend.

Have just returned today from staying at Villa Maia. Beautiful hotel and a must if you visit Lyon. The staff are very attentive, but also unobtrusive, which we loved. They went out of their way to provide us with information about the city. Our room overlooked Lyon and the view was mind blowing every time we entered it. Have just read that the breakfast is complimentary, but it was not the case when we were there. We did check and were told that our reservation did not include breakfast, so just check before you go. Vieux Lyon is charming and everything is in reach thanks to the nearby funicular. I told the staff that we were celebrating my husband’s 60th birthday and they kindly left chocolates in the room for him after our day our - a lovely touch. The restaurant Têtedoie sits in front of the hotel and our evening there was spectacular. We hope to return (and have the breakfast!). Many thanks to all of you who looked after us and who smiled every morning - we are useless with names, but do remember Constance and Fréderic.

I have never enjoyed my stay at a hotel as much as I did at Villa Maia. The concierge team greeted me with a smile and they knew my name the moment I walked in. They suggested restaurant recommendations and were able to get me into a highly coveted restaurant a few hours later on the same day. Because I booked through amex FHR collection, they gave me $100 USD dining credit which I used for two amazing meals at the bar. They upgraded me to a city view room overlooking the beautiful Vieux Lyon and allowed me to check in early and check out late. The spa facilities were also an excellent way to relax after a long day out. It's located just a short 10-15min uphill walk from the Vieux Lyon; centrally located yet away from the bustle. I loved how quiet and peaceful the hotel is and how attentive yet unobtrusive the hotel staff are. Highly recommend for everyone visiting Lyon!

From arrival to departure, the team at the hotel was nothing but friendly, warm, engaging and professional on the best level of hospitality. Villa Maia is a shining example why Leading Hotels of the World have some of the very best hotels and resorts in the business in their portfolio. The service and accommodation were impeccable and we can only recommend this hotel when you visit the French Capital of Food!

This is such a wonderful gem of a hotel, it makes Lyon feel like a holiday home almost immediately. The front desk staff was only too happy to open the door to greet you, they are located in their own cozy corner on the ground floor, rather spartan because everything else - bar, breakfast spot, cocktail lounge - is up the stairs. The hotel may look deceptively quiet but we have stayed in such places where you feel like you have the whole place to yourself, when actually, it does have other hotel guests. Perched on the ancient Fourviere hills and two minutes down the slope from the Roman amphitheatre, the location is within walking distance to the Notre Dame as well as the funicular down to Vieux Lyon. The pool is really relaxing after a whole day of exploring the walking city, and has a fabulous spa of steam and sauna and massage services (book ahead). We checked in slightly earlier and were redirected to the cafe with a wide view of the city and rivers. Food was excellent. The concierge team is very friendly - Francois, Julien and Alvaro can quickly suggest and advise and research for you. Francois sorted out a dinner reservation for me where I had booked the wrong date and purchased extra meal vouchers. A really lovely time, we are telling everyone to go to Lyon now.

An exceptional property located 300 meters above the Rhone and Saone rivers, with a commanding view of Lyon. The property is 7 years old, but is in virtually the same condition it must have been upon opening. A small boutique hotel, but with all of the amenities of a large property. Exceptionally responsive Concierge Team. Complimentary breakfast delivered in room (via Leading Hotels of the World) was varied every day. The property is built above the original Roman location.
