This pub has been taken over by new managers. A Brother and Sister duo. From our visit I reckon these guys can take a good country pub and make it truly excellent. Tamsin served us at the bar and Fred was our waiter. Both were great and struck exactly the right note. If they tweek menu to good classic pub food done really well this will be a West Country gem worth travelling for. A Ploughman's lunch and a cider would be perfect in this place. Really great people in a really great location ....what could be better? Avoid the soulless chains and book this place.

A lovely Inn full of character. A one night stay after a very wet days walk on the Coleridge Way. We loved the log fire and ate our excellent evening meal next to it rather than in the restaurant. The breakfast was also very good. We had a good value packed lunch for our following walk that we had ordered. Rooms were clean and in character to the age of the pub. We were made very welcome.

We visited the Royal Oak at Luxborough for the first time in about 6 months. It has been taken over by the most delightful friendly family. We were made to feel very welcome and the food was absolutely delicious! Vicky the chef is extremely talented and even though we were extremely full after our wonderful lunch, we couldn’t resist her incredible treacle tart. We were pleased we did, it was the best! We’ll be back soon.

The pub has changed hands earlier this year .We came at Christmas and had a Sunday lunch It was amazing in both quality and service. New owners have taken over since the beginning of this year 2025. At Christmas we booked for Sunday Lunch on this Easter Sunday April 10 th 2025. A family of 4. On arrival we were shown into the restaurant and to our table. There were no dining chairs at the table ,only garden furniture. We said this was not acceptable in a restaurant and asked for a different table. Much to the annoyance of the staff a restaurant table and dining chairs were found and we sat down . The owner came to the table dressed like a workman and asked for our order. We were advised that the menu we had ordered was not available as it was a menu set by the previous owners. Then the owners partner came to the table ,she was also not dressed as a person who should be serving food. more like a cleaner. We ordered our food and it came quickly. In fairness the Roast Beef was really good and there were large portions of it. The vegetables and yorkshire pudding were dismal . Undercooked carrots ,soggy yorkshires and frozen peas . Wonderful gravy. though .No horseradish or mustard on the table. This had to be requested twice from the server and arrived in the smallest dish possible for 4 people. Overall very disappointing and not value at all at £19 .95 per head. These people are amateurs , charging restaurant prices in a pub setting for second rate food and service. I doubt if the food is prepared by a qualified chef . Will not go back and will advise everyone to avoid this place.

Very cosy country pub nestled in lovely village. Great access to walks and surrounding countryside. Very friendly landlord and family team. Nice bar with great fire and good selection of ales and wine. Very wholesome food, which was lovely. Really great accommodation with nice beds and well kept. Great breakfast

great location. Fantastic quirky pub but no warm welcome and rubbish food. No fish dishes or specials which was disappointing. Left hungry and let down by what we felt would be a lovely meal after being highly recommended. Possibly worth another try but not sure if we would risk it as it’s out of the way,

Booked ahead for an early Sunday evening meal - many pubs don't open Sunday evening so this was a bonus. Please is quite easy to find but a bit limited on car parking space. Friendly warm welcome to start with to get drinks sorted and given menus at the table. Bit of a wait to then get the initial order - there was a larger party being booked in and all the staff seemed to be focused on them. Good selection of pub type food - the grill offerings did seem to be at a much higher price point. All selected the same chicken and ham pie with veg and either chips or mash. Food came in a reasonable time and was all tasty and hot - really nice touch to have the delicious gravy in a small jug. Chips were hot and crispy and pretty chunky. Veg offering was really good - just slightly al-dente and seasoned well. It was quiet in the pub though, apart from the large party which had their own room and were a tad noisy - as long as door shut it was OK. Staff clearly busy sorting out this as priority - one other couple in at the same time. Took a while to clear plates and longer to get the pudding menu. The couple near us ordered their puddings after us but were served before us! Good offering of fairly typical pub puddings - but all were tasty. The fondant is a touch on the small side -especially for a hungry teen! Overall a nice pub, good decor and possibly we went at just the wrong time but overall would go back :-).

Just returned from another weekend break at this lovely place. Not much has changed since our last visit some 13 months ago, which is just as we like it. Our Mini Suite was comfortable and well appointed, all the Staff friendly and welcoming and the Village quiet and peaceful. Dinner was excellent, with a wonderful choice and Breakfast just what was needed to set you up for the day. Yes , the food prices have gone up since last we stayed ( there again what hasn’t?) but still represents good value for money. We look forward to visiting the Royal Oak again very soon.
