This is a long one, but hopefully it helps others not make the same mistake we did. I wish I’d read the recent reviews before booking. I didn’t think to because we’ve stayed at the Arbor Inn many times in the past and loved it every time. When I booked this time, I had no idea that they were under new management and were now Best Western, as my booking still listed them as Arbor Inn. This new management seems to have run this place into the ground. We checked in a little after 7pm to a room that was 86 degrees. We figured the thermostat just needed to be turned down. We set it to 75 before we left for dinner. When we got back around 10pm, the room was still at 86. We went to the front desk to ask for a room change. Instead of offering us a new room, a lady at the front desk walked us back to our room and messed with the thermostat. We reminded her that we had already tried that and that it hadn’t worked. We walked back to the front desk, where a man then WALKED US BACK to the room, took the thermostat off the wall, blew on it, and, again, instead of offering us another room, told us to wait 5 minutes. By now, it’s 10:30pm, we’d been on the road all day, and are getting pretty frustrated with the situation. We let them know that we’d like to stay somewhere else and requested a refund. He said that we’d have to call the company we booked through, which I did right away. As I’m on the phone with them, he comes back to the room to say that there’s a room available on the second floor. At this point, we have no interest in staying here. After a 30 minute call, I’m told by our travel company that the hotel front desk has denied the request for a refund because they “offered us another room.” We’re so exhausted by this point that we take the room on the second floor, haul all of our stuff up the stairs (elevator out of service), and find that the keys they gave us to the new room don’t work. We let the front desk know and they gave us new room keys, and told us to keep them away from anything magnetic… Thankfully this room was cooler, but not by much. One of the nightstand light bulbs was out. The nightstand shelf itself was crooked. The beds were squeaky and uncomfortable. The fridge door got stuck on the carpet when trying to open and close. It just seems very run down and cheaply redone. We would’ve been willing to look past all of the issues with the appearance and comfort of the hotel if the staff had shown an ounce of hospitality. One of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had.
