I am very sad to have to write this review and I rarely write reviews. I am saddened because this place was one of mine and my wife's very favorite places to stay. We celebrated our 5th and 10th anniversaries here and absolutely fell in love with the place and the owners. I understand that the ownership has recently changed and may be in process of changing things, but our experience was not good. It was nothing like the amazing experiences and care we had on previous stays. We arrived before our dinner at the Brown hotel to a locked door. I had texted the number to text a couple days before arriving to let them know how excited we were to come and celebrate our 20th anniversary, but I didn't know the owners had changed. I received no message back. When we arrived, we weren't sure how to get in and it was COLD!!! I called the number posted on the front door and they answered and asked if I had received a text with info on how to get in with the lock code. I had not seen it but after checking, I had received it. I was able to get in. Upon entering, it was a cold ambiance and dark, very few lights on. Not at all what we had experienced in the past. The B&B was still beautiful. They had some tea and cookies for guests when they arrived. But it was only "run of the mill" teas like Lipton and the room the tea and cookies were in was not lit. We stayed in one of the rooms which was one of our favorites in the past. Let's just say it wasn't even close to what it use to be. Couch cushions in serious need of replacement or repair, fireplace door trim falling off so you couldn't even close the door, a random one-off picture barely hanging in an odd place, bathtub faucet handle missing, walls and ceilings in disrepair, dust/mold built up on all ceiling registers, only two towels provided, towel/linen closet in disarray and stuff everywhere, etc. This place needs some serious update, cleaning, and maintenance. After returning from dinner, we were told we could park in the back and go through the back entrance so we did. The concrete is laid in such a way that when backing up, the bottom of our car scraped across it. The only way to not make that happen was to go at a diagonal angle. We unloaded our suitcases and wary of the ice we tried to go in the back entrance but it was locked and no way to enter. So back to the car and loading it back up and going back around to the front int he 15 degrees outside. A little frustrating. Breakfast was okay, not what we had enjoyed in years past. The heat was running like crazy, so at least we were not cold, but it was definitely hot at times. After returning home, we realized we had left a straightening iron at the B&B. I have called and left messages, but no one either answers the phone or even returns the messages. We are so sad to see this place go, it was one of our favorites and will not return.
