Overall, we had a pleasant stay for 2-nights B&B, with several positives: 1. Pleasant location (in residential area); albeit not walkable to city centre! 2. We stayed in a 'Premier Plus' room and appreciated the extras (when we got these sorted, finally: see below!) 3. Conor, on Reception, was very helpful, even if he couldn't sort out the lights! 4. Pizza, fish and chips and Chinese food carryout options immediately across the road, handily. On the negative side: 1. On our first night, we had to ask Reception for several items not in the room! Additionally, there was a problem getting our bedside lights to work. Amazingly, even with Connor's assistance, they only worked when the bathroom lights were on (couldn't make this up!). So no lights or follow-up from Premier Inn staff the next day☹️ The provided hairdryer and remote control offered inconsistent performance. One serious issue was the bathroom hot tap. The water became SCALDING; with no warning❗This is a health and safety concern for the hotel to address; at least with a written warning in the bathroom. 2. We were emailed several days beforehand, advising the restaurant was not doing evening meals. Yet, upon arrival, this was inaccurate: it was open and serving! 3. The breakfast was adequate. The selection was good, including condiments; but a lot of the 'hot food' was mostly lukewarm and dried up (fried eggs invariably like rubber!). The sausages were the exception and very tasty. 4. The restaurant (Brewers Fayre) was a good size but: lacked atmosphere, seemed understaffed- as only occasionally present. Also, there was no clearing of dirty dishes while we ate (despite the obvious lack of busyness at recurring times)! The carpet does need a good clean or replacing. Disappointedly, we also uncovered several dirty cups and plates on both days. Overall, the restaurant would benefit from more attention to detail, staff training; and being more customer focussed.
