The Duke William

What a fantastic place to stay. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. A country pub set in a beautiful village. The pub overlooks fields. Our room was great -comfortable with quirky bits! - including a selection of books on the bookshelf to a little bottle of a liquor. Loved the pantry on the landing with fresh milk, bottles of water and extra toiletries. The breakfast is superb with a good selection of delicious items. We had granola, compote and yoghurt. We chose poached eggs, avocado and smoked salmon on thibk soar dough. Amazing. We chose to eat in the pub in the evening - again it was absolutely delicious.

We had a very enjoyable lunch. Jenny looked after us very well as she always does with her warm, friendly manner. She was also very efficient, despite being rushed off her feet due to a shortage of waiting staff. We were also looked after by Lenka who again was very friendly and helpful. The Haddock fish cake starter was very tasty and had been made freshly in the kitchen that morning. The vegetarian Winter pie was simple, but superb, accompanied by delicious mashed potatoes and greens, it was a lovely meal. Our compliments to the Chef! The English Rosé wine from a nearby vineyard is as good, if not better than any French Rosé and is highly recommended. Our only disappointment was in the dessert menu as this has not been updated for a long time and nothing that was listed appealed to us, so we did not order dessert. If by chance the Manager or the Head Chef reads this, please could you think about bringing back the wonderful Gypsy Tart that used to be on the menu? Hats off to Jenny and Lenka! We could only marvel at the way these two waitresses coped with such a crowded restaurant remaining good-humoured throughout and making all their customers feel special. An extra waitress or waiter would take the pressure off and make their work easier. Appearances are important and both Jenny and Lenka looked lovely, Jenny in a pretty feminine blouse and smart trousers and Lenka in a striking all-in-one jumpsuit. As always the ambiance of the Duke William, its location and ease of parking and its friendly, helpful staff cannot be surpassed. It is one of our favourite restaurants!

We stayed at the Duke William and it was a really nice experience. All the staff were really friendly and very helpful, we ate there twice and the food was delicious, cooked breakfasts were also great. No complaints, would definitely recommend.

We stayed the Duke William as a stop over after travelling through the Le Shuttle from France! It is the quaintest pub. Quintessentially English with a roaring fire. And they take dogs! The accommodation was amazing, clean cosy and renovated. ( chocolate port in the room was a lovely touch) We had dinner when we arrived which was so good and breakfast the next morning which was also incredible! Thanks to Hugh for making us feel so welcome. We would definitely stay here again! I hope we can soon!

My wife and I stayed overnight at The Duke William in October and thoroughly recommend this lovely pub. The room was a lovely size, with a great ensuite and the bed was very comfortable. The food was very good and the staff were very welcoming. If I didn't live so far away I'd be a regular visitor.

Lovely place just outside Canterbury very handy for Howletts we stayed in the Stein room that has a small balcony to sit out on if you wish . We had a great nights sleep a couple in the other room seemed to be having a good physical session 😍😍 so other rooms a little noisy.

We were attending a wedding at Preston Court, hence the stay. A beautiful pub in a village in the heart of the Kent countryside. The team were very warm and welcoming. We were told everything we needed to know. Well appointed room. Lovely little bathroom. Comfy bed. Decent coffee machine. There was a little noise from the pub downstairs, but it’s a very old building so this is to be expected. Nothing ear plugs didn’t solve. Breakfast was scrumptious. Probably the best granola starter we’ve ever had! We sampled the vegetarian and full English. Both fantastic. The evening ‘Mussels Night’ was also great! Thank you Duke William! We would definitely stay again if we find ourselves in this part of the world.

Great to be in a pub that was busy with a very good atmosphere. Excellent food served by staff who were professional and friendly. We had 8 for dinner and everyone enjoyed the evening. Th room was comfortable and it is a very clever idea to have a cupboard with a fridge in it for milk and water . We will return!

My Fourth Stay at The Duke William. I have never felt so welcomed back anywhere. Greeted by Adam with hugs and smiles. My main point here is that most of the superb staff are still there nearly a year on. Impressive. People make a place stand out. The staff here are outstanding.
