Villanova - Nature & Wellness

After comprehensive research about the available accommodations in the vicinity of Cinque Terre, I found the Villanova agriturismo in Levanto, Italy. Once I read about it and saw the pictures on the Villanova website, there was no going back. I booked it for our family of five and we stayed there in May 2025 for eight nights. It could not have been more perfect for our needs. Everything about the Villanova is A1. There is culture, history, gastronomy and scenery. How to adequately describe the scenery from every window at the hotel? Coming from Toronto, a huge and modern megalopolis of some five to six million people, arriving at the Villanova felt like being transported into a magical fairytale village in the mountains. I wasn’t expecting the lush vegetation of the property and its surroundings, all perfectly manicured. And the fragrance of the olive trees, the star jasmine, the mock orange and all the various pines was heavenly. As for the nuts and bolts of the accommodation, it was perfect. The rooms were attractively appointed with antiques, the beds and bedding were lovely, the bathrooms were well equipped and there was plenty of hot water for showers. As for the organic breakfast offered daily, it was so over-the-top wonderful that it bears special mention. A bounteous, delicious repast that we looked forward to every day. And a shout-out to the staff, particularly our delightful and gracious shuttle driver, Giovanna, who took us back and forth from the hotel to town and back. Also, the breakfast staff were efficient, pleasant, quick to deliver everyone’s coffee orders, and completely lovely. I have only one note of caution for North American travellers. In the U.S. and Canada, when there is a hot tub on the premises for the guests’ use, it is generally hot. It was a bit disappointing to have the spa tub merely tepid, especially after a long day walking up the hundreds of stairs of the Cinque Terre towns, and doing 12,000 steps or more. But some of my family members braved the cool water temperatures to get into both pools, and were glad to do so anyway. There was, after all, the scenery to gaze at while there. Thank you to the proprietor, Giancarlo Massola, for his unfailing attention to every detail at the Villanova and for ensuring our family’s stay was perfect. Agriturismo Villanova is absolutely fabulous. Everything was first class, from the rooms to the beds and bedding to the breakfasts, which feature delicious local organic products, many of which are grown and produced at Villanova. The owner and staff are friendly and fantastic -- helpful and accommodating in every way. One of our family was celebrating a milestone birthday and when they learned of it, the breakfast staff presented her with a little cake with candles on it. A lovely touch. We decided to stay here (near Levanto, a nice small city with good restos, BTW) rather than in one of the Cinque Terre villages. They are lovely, of course, but the idea of dragging a suitcase through the train stations and up a zillion steps into the heart of one of the towns is just not our idea of a restful time. Villanova is, for sure. The comfortable and roomy shuttle at Villanova took us to the train station or into Levanto at convenient times. Both of the drivers were friendly and helpful. From the train station, we visited all five villages and then returned to Villanova for a restful, tranquil night. The first day, we took the ferry round trip to Porto Venere, just to get a sense of Cinque Terre. A good strategy for us. We were a family group of five adults who stayed in four different rooms, all of which were beautiful and comfortable. Two of the rooms had full cooking facilities, and we had several delicious meals there in addition to going to terrific local restaurants. Highly recommended, in every way. Not cheap, of course, but worth every penny to our group. Grazie, Villanova !!!

Throughly enjoyed our time at Villanova. Great room for a family of four. Beautiful surroundings, delicious homemade organic breakfast, lovely staff and a great shuttle service that takes you downtown either in the morning hours or in late afternoon/early evening. The pool area was really nice too, but as we were here in late march, weather wasn’t really for it. The hiking opportunities in and around cinque terre are amazing and Villanova serves as a perfect base to explore. We would love to return.

The place was very pretty and location was great. It was clean and comfortable. We had 2 kids with us , one 6 year old and another 4 year old. And we stayed only did 1 night , didn’t use the pools or anything since we were doing a lot of visiting cinque terre and also the aquarium. In our room there was a bottle of wine and 1 pack of chips and peanuts left on the table left with a “WELCOME “ card on it, so to my knowledge as I have been to many hotels wich leave little cute gift like that was a warm welcoming from the staff…… well note to self “”” a welcoming card with a bottle of wine is NOT a nice gesture from the staff but it means 26€ for it after. Now I would have left 5 star if , after I payed for the room and the breakfast for adults was 15€ each and 10€ for children, my daughter and son ate 1 biscuits if that by the way. The owner latter sent me a messenger saying by the way we charged u an additional 26 for the bottle of wine. I don’t know if he did that bc it was really not a welcoming gift or he was charging me more bc I took a banana and a biscuit to go for the kids since they didn’t eat ANY breakfast except for a cookie, I saw the waitress stare at me so that could also be why. Anyways the place was great it would have been even better if they acted a bit nicer and not so uptight, especially since we stayed 1 night from 10 pm and checked out at 9 am and payed 268€ plus 26€ for the wine. Also u can NOT check in from 12.30-15.30

Villanova was the perfect place for our entire family of 10 adults and 12 children and teens to spend a week. For the children and teens it was a first time visit to the country where their great grandfather was born and the experience could not have been better. Villanova's shuttle ran for two hours twice a day, making it easy to get to the beach in Levanto, which was not overly crowded midweek, or to catch a train to Cinque Terra for hiking. For breakfast there was something delicious for everyone, including the vegans in our group. The pool was lovely and the location spectacular. The staff was helpful, friendly, and patient with the joyful exuberance of the children. I would happily stay at Villanova again in the future.

Decor is charming, breakfast an impressive assortment of fresh fruit, breads, pastries, owner and staff all friendly and helpful. I would happily come back. rooms were spacious and well appointed. Coffee, tea, cookies available 24/7 for jet lag!
