"Location & First Impressions This was our first visit to Lesvos, and from the moment we landed it felt completely different to many of the more commercial Greek destinations. The airport is small and relaxed – when we arrived, ours was the only plane there. We booked through Jet2 and the transfer to the hotel took around two hours. Halfway through, we switched from the main coach to a shared minibus with another family. Although the distance isn't huge, the second half of the journey winds through mountain roads with tight switchback bends and speed limits of around 40mph, so the transfer takes longer than you might expect. Lesvos feels wonderfully traditional and, importantly, not yet spoiled by mass tourism. On arrival at Aeolian Village, I was initially a little underwhelmed by how remote it felt and the apparent lack of anything nearby. However, that quickly became one of the hotel's greatest strengths. It offers a genuine escape from everyday life and allows you to completely switch off. The Room & Hotel Our room consisted of a double bed and single bed with a rear-facing balcony. The view wasn't the prettiest, but it did overlook the mountains, which was peaceful and relaxing. The room was cleaned every day and the entire hotel was spotlessly maintained throughout our stay. One thing that stood out was how amazing the hotel smelled everywhere – a small detail, but one that really added to the overall experience. Food & Dining We stayed on a half-board basis and, quite simply, the food was outstanding. I've never experienced hotel food quite like it before. The quality, freshness and cooking of every dish is a real credit to the kitchen team. The meat dishes were consistently excellent and the profiteroles were absolutely incredible. Breakfast was also very good. The bacon and sausage were the standard type often found abroad, so I tended to skip those and instead enjoyed the freshly made omelettes, Greek yoghurt with honey and nuts, and the fresh bread with cherry jam – a new favourite of mine. The pool bar also serves food, and it's surprisingly good. The chicken nuggets were some of the best I've had, and portions are generous – around nine nuggets or eight fish fingers in a standard serving. Food prices were reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes. The drinks, however, were a little disappointing. Because there isn't much nearby, you're effectively a captive audience. There is a Happy Hour at the pool bar and a "Thirsty Thirty" half-price promotion at the beach bar, but I wasn't particularly impressed by the cocktails. My mojito, for example, tasted mostly of lime juice with a single shot of spirit and no brown sugar, despite normally costing around €10. El hotel está a 5-10 a unos minutos a pie del centro de la aldea, que es como volver a tiempo. "We’ve just come back from a wonderful holiday at this hotel. If you’re the sort of people who like hotels that are generic and could be anywhere in the world, this isn’t for you. If however you want a whole lot of character and charm, immaculately clean, with beautiful views, lovely staff, and a great Greek experience, I’d highly recommend the Aegeon. It’s in a quiet spot, but it’s an easy walk into the village where you’ll find enough restaurants to give you plenty of choice. If you decide to stay round the pool, I’d highly recommend the Greek pizza, just fab! The hotel puts on a Greek bbq night once a week, which most of the guests attended and was great fun. We hired a car and spent the day exploring the island, which is really lovely. It’s a far more authentic experience than the more commercial islands like Rhodes or Corfu. We’re definitely looking to come back again, following in the footsteps of a large number of other returning visitors. Thank you again Antonetta and all the staff of the Aegeon, we’ll see you again soon."

"A very nice hotel, clean and comfortable. Our room's air conditioning was a bit slow, largely because the cleaners insisted on leaving the windows/doors to our room open once they'd been in the morning so the day's heat was allowed to penetrate inside. Why couldn't they shut everything after, say, thirty minutes or whatever? Clearing this took more power than the air con units could really muster. A small matter really as we weren't uncomfortable. Breakfast was good enough, fresh eggs, bread, pastries etc. The taverna/cafe was very good, authentic Greek food...and I don't mean waterfront/beach tourist Greek Salad authentic. Very tasty, very basic, good value and plenty of it. Visited by many from outside the hotel, who also used the hotel's pool. Mid day the pool was complete mayhem. Children turned the pool into a warzone running laps, divebombing, lilo fights screaming and shouting. I witnessed hotel guests arguing with pool visitors (non-hotel guests) over sunbeds, and the visitors lying they did indeed stay at the hotel and were Jet2 clients - highly unlikely as they were clearly Dutch! I also noticed visitors removing a guest's shirt and towel from a bed so they could use it, even though visitors are only allowed the use of a small fraction of sunbeds. A really poor experience, and we didn't use the pool area for the rest of the holiday. I brought the matter up with reception who thanked us for mentioning it but stated non hotel guests only used the pool at weekends, but this was clearly not the case. We asked why there wasn't an occasional pool attendant and were told staff were too busy working in the restaurant as they get a lot of outside visitors! We had a hire car and were thankful we hadn't elected to walk into town at night. Steep uphill for the first half mile, and if a warm night then a bit of a hike. Lots of people getting taxis, quite wisely, but Lesvos is a fantastic island with some very lovely places to visit - particularly restaurants, so why not hire a car and do the island justice? To summarise - a good hotel experience, marred by carnage at the pool. If you want the whole island experience then the Aphrodite is perfect, if you want lazy times by the pool with a book while your child plays then check you have ear plugs and your child is a confident swimmer and isn't deterred by groups of other kids racing, bombing, diving, screaming etc etc "

"Lovely clean hotel, with friendly staff. Room very clean and spacious. Although please bear in mind if you’re in a studio family room there is a massive hill to walk up to get to your room and then possibly up to 37 steps. This was very difficult for me with my disability and unfortunately Jet2 didn’t fully describe this. The pool was lovely and big, plenty of sun beds no matter what time you get there. The pool area could do with a bit of music to liven the day up, as there is no entertainment at all. The breakfast was basic (Greek style) but I enjoyed it. They could maybe put some scrambled egg or sausages on just to make it slightly better. After eating a really cheap awful tasting burger and some fatty under cooked chicken Gyro we didn’t bother eating anything from the snack bar again as it wasn’t worth the price. You also have to pay an extra 5 euros a day for the aircon which I don’t agree with at all it should come as standard. All in all we had a lovely stay for 7 nights and if it wasn’t for the hill we would definitely return."

"A lovely small hotel in Petra old town. The room was very cozy and clean. The owner is a lovely lady. We had breakfast included which was amazing. Bread, eggs, fresh orange juice and lots of pasteries each morning. Only a few minutes walk to the beach and the shops/bars/restaurants. As we had to leave early we got some breakfast to take with us I really can recommend a stay here, you won't be disappointed."

"Qué maravillosa vacaciones relajadas, desde el momento en que llegamos hasta el momento en que dejamos que estaba tan frío, tuvimos una transferencia privada que duró una hora, cuando llegamos y nos envió una copa gratis ( cerveza fría) y nuestros bolsillos se desaparecieron en nuestra habitación. La habitación era realmente limpia y moderna, era agradable ver una ducha moderna en Grecia. Las camas en la habitación estaban firmes. Balcón estaba rodeado de oliva. Las camas de sol fueron cómodas, la piscina tenía un fin tranquilo para los niños, nos cocinamos nosotros mismos. Comimos un par de veces para almorzar en el bar del hotel, era maravilloso, también a precios razonables. El proyecto de mitos era lindo que guardaban los gafas en el congelador! La casa de la ciudad es un poco salvaje. ( no fallo del hotel ) Needs a proper path as Parts are on the main road and it’s not light at night so take a touch. Takes about 15/20 mins. Petra is lovely loads of nice places to eat and drink, very relaxed great food and the sun sets incredible. El tren de tierra es una gran manera de llegar, también muchos taxis."

"Don't be fooled by the description of this being an Organic Hotel! I didn't see any evidence of this and was quite horrified by the number of caged animals and birds kept at the hotel! I expected to see nicely tended fields growing fresh produce but sadly was met with only untidy wasteland. It's really not worthy of it's 3 star status. It's very tired and dated. I found the room to be clean but the bed was really uncomfortable. Bathroom in much need of an update. Felt as though the owners had lost interest in the place. Many of the sunbeds around the pool were broken. Breakfast was OK but never saw one table being cleaned! Don't go to Scala Kalonis for a beach holiday as the beach is very littered and the sea is too shallow for swimming. It felt very neglected. The only good thing about the resort was the nice Tavernas. I will not be returning as there are much nicer resorts and accommodation in Lesvos."
