Fort Charlotte Guest House

I have just returned from Shetland spending four nights at the Fort Charlotte Guest House with my cousin. My room was very comfortable nothing was to much trouble for the staff I would very happily return again.

Stay here! Not just for the amazing position, right in the middle of beautiful Lerwick, surrounded by cafes and walking distance to everything. And not just for the delicious breakfast, served with such a friendly smile every morning. And not even just for the comfortable room, with everything you need for a great stay. Definitely stay here for all these reasons, but the main one for me is you will feel like you are staying with friends, and that makes everything feel even better. Ryan, Anita, Kelly, and Linda (apologies if I haven’t spelled your names correctly!) have created such a welcoming, happy environment. They give people space, but are there for any advice, hints or local knowledge, if needed. From the time of booking, the communication is brilliant. The check-in was easy. Nothing was a bother. I loved my 12 days on Shetland. It is one of the most physically beautiful places I have ever visited. I’m sure, though, my experience would not have been so special had I stayed anywhere else. I was genuinely sad to leave. Thanks for a wonderful visit, guys x

We stayed for 5 nights at The Forte Charlotte Guesthouse based around running Park run at Bressay. Our stay was perfect, we loved everything from the place to the people, for that is what makes a truly memorable stay .. Oh and the best porridge ever ! Thank you Sam & Andrew

From the very first message after booking, we knew we were in great hands. The communication from Ryan & Anita was outstanding — clear, prompt, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Every interaction, from pre-arrival details to local recommendations and check-out arrangements, was handled with warmth and care. When we arrived, we were greeted like old friends. Ryan and Anita made us feel instantly at home, while Kelly brought a bright, friendly energy to every morning along with Ryan’s mom - kind, thoughtful, and always ready with a smile. They all went above and beyond, not just in service, but in creating a real connection. The location is perfect and the guest house itself was spotless, comfortable, and full of charm, but it’s the people who made our stay unforgettable. Their kindness, attention to detail, and seamless hospitality made the entire experience — from booking to delicious made to order breakfast to “farewell for now” — absolutely perfect. A very comfortable Guest House, we had a lovely breakfast every morning, Ryan and Anita looked after us so well,looking forward to going back in two years time.

It was a very pleasant surprise to find accommodation where we felt comfortable, as if we were in our own home. Everything was well designed to make us feel part of Lerwick! The soft beds and well-designed wardrobes provided an excellent environment to recharge your batteries and explore the charms of the Shetland Islands.
