The Dog & Bear Hotel

Myself and my Mum and Dad stayed there with my two dogs on our way from Luxembourg to Manchester. From start to finish, the experience was superb. Incredibly helpful, friendly staff and a room with everything that you would need for a comfortable night. The food at both dinner and breakfast was delicious!!! The traditional old English pub was beautiful after spending 4 years living in Luxembourg!! I'd definitely use that again as a lovely interlude to a journey from the continent to the North of England!

Food was excellent! Good parking. Bar very much for 'locals', not a particularly welcoming atmosphere. Public areas, doors and corridors etc needed a deep clean. Room was in dire need of modernisation - over-packed with unnecessary furniture, pictures, throw & numerous cushions (nowhere to put them after you've taken them off the bed!), a great modern coffee machine, but sadly the mugs were too big to go for it... A REALLY heavy duvet - it was a very hot JULY day! Bathroom badly needed updating, tiny shower with a 30cm step up to it, and chipped/mouldy tray. I wouldn't stay here again - such a shame, as Lenham is a lovely village.

Proper pub experience with a hotel added. There was an area for locals, a more lounge/ restaurant area and then the bedroom in a separate block. This set up gives you options in terms of how you want to spend your evening. Rooms were clean and quiet. Food was really excellent: haven’t seen Baked Alaska on a menu before so had to try it - gorgeous! Cooked breakfast was fab too

We visited for a few days and overall enjoyed the hotel. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was very good. We ate in the restaurant on two nights and in the bar on the third. The hotel is nicely situated in the square and with the evening sunshine has a great view of the church tower. The only drawback was the plumbing as i couldn't get a hot shower even after it had been checked. Maybe it was me but needing to use two hands to turn the dial didn't help. The only other issue was a very noisy air conditioning unit but as I'm not sure if this was actually on the hotel property it would be unfair to criticise.

Excellent cooked breakfast. Had the full English one day and an omelette the other and both were good. Friendly staff. Beds were pretty comfortable and the rooms had the facilities that you would expect, Plenty of car parking at the rear of the pub.

Super spot – Felt like coming home!   Stayed during week 2 of renovations at our home. Wish I had booked in for the first week too now in hindsight –   Establishment is clearly well run with exceptional service being delivered by Ryan – who always went above and beyond with a barrage of requests- and Simona on a management level.   From a Food perspective Brad and Kyle (to mention only 2 of the kitchen brigade) consistently churned out top quality food using superb ingredients. Always delivered in a presentable and delicious fashion.   Extra special shout outs to – Layla, Joe and Tyler FOH. Thank you guys. Keep on keeping on!   Its worth pointing out that the building is several centuries old – that said any issue I had with water pressure was sorted in a good fashion – thank you Ryan.   I am checking out tomorrow and Room 22 has left an impression, one which I am sure I will utilise again. My dad booked for me last minute, he has stayed here before and told me how nice it was! I was down on a business trip, I arrived at about 10ish. The staff and manager were lovely and helpful, got me checked in and the room was lovely, cosy and warm. The bed was really comfy and I had one of the best nights sleep. It is in a lovely quiet location. Breakfast was delicious as well and plenty to choose from with a continental breakfast and cooked options.

We stayed at the Dog and Bear during early July and were hugely impressed by the quality of the service, the value for money and the friendliness of the staff. From our arrival through to check out, nothing was too much trouble and this wonderful attitude greatly enhanced our stay. The room was immaculate and the food was of a consistently high quality. i would particularly highlight the Eggs Benedict. We are happy to give The Dog and Bear our highest recommendation, and our thanks for making our short stay so enjoyable.

We rented 5 rooms in the hotel in December 2023. Our main complaint is that 4 of the rooms had no hot water. We spoke to the front desk about this and they blamed old building long pipes but we ran the water in all 4 rooms for quite some time and never got hot water. We do understand that older buildings have quirks but lack of hot water is never acceptable. The food in the pub was good and the beds were comfortable. We suggest to avoid room 4 as an adult taller than about 5-10 can’t stand upright in the room without hitting their head on the ceiling.
