Frequently Asked Question: Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald? My suggestion: visit both, but stay at Lauterbrunnen. The valley of 72 waterfalls was much less touristy, more tranquil and poetic especially at night. And if you stay at Lauterbrunnen, do stay at Hotel Silberhorn. Hotel Silberhorn featured a modern minimal renovated cozy warm chic interior but you could find historical artefacts and artworks along the corridors, showcasing how mountain hospitality had transformed over four generations. Staying there was like visiting a little museum, a well curated dialogue between old and new. At the breakfast buffet, apart from bread and muesli and fruits and cold cuts they also served hot food: eggs, sausages and bacon. And the pancakes were really good. At the lobby you can find still and soda water from the self-service bar, next to a mini-waterfall installation. Staff were friendly and efficient. I liked a lot their gardens with perennial plants. The hotel was very close to the train station. If you are returning from a day-trip tired and hungry do order a wood-fired pizza from them. Highly recommended.
