I find it strange that that I didn't receive an invitation to give feedback on my stay at the Comfort Inn in La Porte, TX. Maybe not so strange. I have an idea why, actually. I'll leave that here... We checked in after 4pm on the day of our reservation. We had a bust evening, and got in late. My wife asked the young man at the front desk if the pool was still open. He responded with a wishy-washy, "Well, not really, but there are people still in there. I guess if you went in there, I couldn't really do anything about it..." We took that as his approval, as long as we didn't cause trouble. We went to the pool around 10pm, past a small sign that said, "Pool Closed." After what we had been told, and the fact that the door was UNLOCKED, we went for a swim. There was one other family with a 2-y.o. girl there. A hotel employee came out to talk to them (they obviously knew each other), and acknowledged us. We got out of the pool around 11 and went back to the room and to bed. Around midnight, we awoke to a knock on the door and an armed, uniformed police officer was there WITH the hotel employee we had seen at the pool. They told us that we were being escorted off the property for being in the pool. We explained the story and they went to get the manager. An hour later, a man identifying himself as the general manager knocked on our door, again with the other employee. He was ready to kick us out. He told us that the pool was closed due to chemicals being put into the pool to treat it and that the chemicals could be toxic. We explained again what we had been told and he relented. Good luck going back to sleep after that! My wife and three girls were terrified. At NO time were we ever told about the pool being closed or treated. Apparently, other hotel staff didn't even know about it, or there would have been some communication at check-in, by the front desk, and certainly by the hotel employee who saw us and then accompanied the officer to our door. This is the type of problem that comes from the top, and the general manager is to blame. I am sure that he fired the gentleman who would not answer us directly. This manager should be dismissed, as well. Needless to say, we will never visit this hotel again. I cannot believe that nothing was done for us as a concession for the midnight madness. This is inexcusable.
