What began as a simple stopover on our Garden Route journey to Cape Town transformed into an unexpected highlight of our entire holiday. Perched magnificently above the famous Knysna Heads, Head Over Hills luxury retreat captured our hearts in just one memorable night. The panoramic views of the Indian Ocean are simply spectacular, made even more special by the incredibly attentive and warm staff who ensure every moment of your stay is perfect. Nature put on an extraordinary show during our brief visit - we were treated to pods of playful dolphins, massive schools of fish creating silvery patterns in the water, and even the thrilling sight of sharks breaching the surface. The abundance of seabirds added to this mesmerising natural spectacle, making every moment spent on the property's viewing decks an adventure in itself. The attention to detail in our room was exemplary, with the crowning glory being the luxurious Hästens bed - renowned worldwide for their exceptional comfort. After a long day of driving, sinking into this heavenly bed felt like pure indulgence. This boutique hotel represents remarkable value for money, offering a level of luxury and natural beauty that's truly world-class. What was meant to be a simple overnight stay along our road trip turned out to be an experience we'll never forget. Head Over Hills isn't just a hotel, it's a destination that captures your heart, even if just for one night.

Beds were the best I have ever slept on, Hastens Beds. Service and staff attention impeccable at all times. Breakfast fabulous with many choices and Dinner is optional and was very good. Once you are there you actually do not want to go anywhere and just take in the sea air, views and peace.

We stayed in the pansy shell room. The room over the bay is stunning and we saw a pod of dolphins on our first day. It also offers a great view of sunset. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and dinner wonderful.

I have been blessed to stay at many great hotels and Safari lodges around the world. But my resent stay at Head over Hills was truly unique! Stunning View, amazing location, staff was world class, owner Martin was the highlight. He did go above and beyond to make our stay unique. This hotel has Hastens Bed’s and I sleept amazing, possible the best bed in the World ! Martin has a wine cellar that you need to come and try ! All from South Africa and I did not have high expectations as I live in California Wine Country but Martin the wine we tried was truly amazing. Please do your self this favor ! Go to Head over Hills spend some days you will really not regret it !!!

Head Over Hills is truly one of the best hotels I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying at! The location is simply sublime. The views from the hotel are truly stunning, think French Riviera! Apart from the excellent amenities and location, the service was top-notch. My special thanks to Solani and Webster for making our visit so incredibly special, and organizing a surprise for my father’s birthday. Their affable and genial demeanor, paired with their attention to detail made for a remarkable combo. Finally, the food was as delicious as it gets! For both breakfast and supper, the options were amazing. And of course, the wine option is as expansive and incredible as it gets. Thank you Head Over Hills!

An experience we’ll cherish forever! Staying at Head over hills is out of this world; Magical in every way! The view, nature surrounding it, the food, attention to detail, the service and atmosphere is wonderful. Not to mention the vines and the knowledge in this place! We came for a weekend and only wished we’d stayed longer:) Had great food, vines and views that will stay with us for life. Both a place to be active and to relax. Golf course and expertise at hand (even clubs to borrow) Massage to refresh us and a wonderful vine cellar to excite us. Highly recommended!

We had a bespoke stay with a fantastic sleep in an Hästens bed. At Head over Hills everything is personalised, Therese, Martin and the team are hosts with hearts. This place is a jewel along the Garden Route which will remain on our pocket list

One of my MOST memorable lodging stays in my life! A number of factors made it VERY memorable. My wife and I stayed in one of the suites on the second floor above the pool during May 2023 and slept on a Luxury Hastens bed. One of the most comfortable beds I’ve encountered in my life. We checked in during the shoulder season and were one of the few guests staying in the hotel. The level of attentiveness to our needs by the management and staff was really nice and immediately made us comfortable and at home. A storm rolled in from the beautiful ocean and it rained for 3 out of the 4 days/nights we stayed there. The beautiful and serendipitous part of it all was that the owner, Martin, included us in some meals by a fire with his friends while the storm rolled in. His gracious hospitality is what elevated our stay there by being so inclusive. While we were able to take day trips out into the area, weather permitting, we looked forward to being back inside at the hotel due to the new friends we were meeting. We consider Martin a friend as a result and look forward to meeting him again the next time we stay in the months ahead and picking right back up where we left off. Also, his wine selection is off the charts and one of the best we’ve seen at a hotel. :-)
