We were looking forward to coming ,as a group of friends who meet up occasionally and this was booked months in advance. What a shame we were all decidedly under whelmed. Our table wasn't ready when we got there. When we were eventually seated the lighting was very bright and the room lacking in atmosphere. Starters were just about warm . It then took almost a hour for our mains to come . We like a break but thought a hour excessive. Most of the mains weren't as hot as they should've been. Would suggest the restaurant and kitchen need a fresh set of eyes to oversee whats going on.

Just back from a pre Xmas break to Kirkby Lonsdale and the Royal Hotel as a gesture of support to the village given the recent tragic event. Having stayed many times over the years, we were slightly concerned about some of the recent reviews, but please don't be put off by them. This is a lovely hotel, our room was spotless as usual, huge, warm, great TV, the food was amazing, service quick despite being busy and ALL the staff couldn't have been nicer. Special thanks to Harry and Tabitha for looking after us, see you in 2025.

We came to Kirkby Lonsdale to support the local economy after the tragic events of 8th December . We have visited Kirkby Lonsdale many times and stayed at The Royal many times - sadly this visit was tainted by an indifferent service and poor quality drinks - the food presented was borderline compared with The Royal of the past . What a disappointment when you have specifically visited in the hope of supporting the local economy. Thankfully other pubs/restaurants in Kirkby Lonsdale do want your business and were very welcoming .

A came just to have a quiet cup of tea in the lounge area , but my enjoyment was somewhat spoiled as this miserable fat old woman sat nearby kept staring at me as if I'd done something offensive and mumbling things they may or maybe not have been snide comments. This made me feel very uneasy and uncomfortable as as I said spoiled my enjoyment of my visit, and I feel a bit put off coming again if other customers are going to give me the evils for no reason.

Pleasant stay in a characterful,comfortable hotel. On arrival,parking is a bit of an issue-but managed to park up past the church. Kirby Lonsdale has individual shops,plenty of pubs and dining options! Warm welcome at hotel -stayed in room 12 -bathroom modern,the bedroom does need a refurb. Lovely breakfast and staff in dining room . We liked the hotel and will return!

We have stayed at this beautiful hotel many many times over the past ten years. It is a shame it has gone so down hill, we will not be staying any more as the past three times have not been as would be expected. The location and building is stunning, the inside is now very run down, our rooms were not as clean and as kept as should be with visible dirt/dust. The food is below standard and the staff seem very uptight and not very happy to be working there - which is the biggest reason to not return. All of the younger members of staff were actually very lovely and helpful. The ones that have been there a while were border line rude and extremely unwelcoming. It is a real shame as they have prime position and a gorgeous building… it needs a complete makeover.

We are frequent visitors to the Dales and the Lakes but this was our first overnight stay in K.L., I doubt very much that it will be our last! The Royal is charming and characterful. Our room was highly satisfactory with pleasing decor and a view overlooking the market square. Ample cupboard and drawer space. The snug/resident's lounge is very comfortable and a quiet refuge with daily papers and reading material. We had dinner in the hotel on our first night. An extensive menu which was not over-pricey and the food was good. Breakfast was equally good with plenty of choice beyond the "usual suspects". The staff were friendly and service was first rate at dinner, but a little less so at breakfast. We totally enjoyed our stay and would definitely re-visit. There is no private parking for the hotel as is the case for virtually all hospitality places in the town, but with a little planning and walking short distances I managed to avoid paying for parking throughout our stay without breaking any rules.

Like a lot of the buildings in the town they are older and the hotel is no exception. The room was perfectly acceptable and the bathroom was modern with a bath/shower. Regarding parking, there is a small car park opposite the hotel with free parking from 1800 to 0900 the next morning but not many spaces. If you want 24 hour parking, there is free on the road parking just past the church a 5 minute walk away but first come first served, so not guaranteed, but we had no problem. Yes, we would stay here again. We used the restaurant for breakfast which was excellent, plenty of choice and ate an evening meal here too. There is a really nice walk along the river Lune which does not require you to get out the car for, just head out of the hotel and turn right.
