The George & Horn near Newbury

Reservamos esta habitación en el último minuto y me hubiera gustado gastar un poco más para ir a otro lugar. Al llegar no había aparcamiento en el pub, así que tuvimos que aparcar en la calle. Nos dirigimos al pub y nos registramos, y nos dieron un juego de llaves con un llavero que estaba sucio por todas partes. Nos dirigimos a nuestra habitación (habitación 3) y descubrimos una habitación pequeña que parecía limpia, hasta que miramos más de cerca y encontramos manchas en el taburete y las cortinas. Hay baños y duchas separados, ambos son diminutos, y solo se podía abrir la puerta del baño lo suficiente para entrar, ya que el suelo está tan deformado que no se abre del todo. En la taza del inodoro había un mechón de pelo, y el baño olía mal. El baño era básico, sin jabón de manos, y mucho menos artículos de tocador en la ducha. Una vez que abrimos la puerta de la ducha, encontramos un techo, esquinas y puerta sucios. La puerta tenía marcas de agua por todas partes. El desayuno era normal. Si te alojas aquí, no pidas huevos Benedict, ya que la salsa holandesa estaba hecha y las papas fritas que venían en el desayuno inglés estaban blandas. El wifi tampoco funcionaba. Lo único positivo fue el estilo pintoresco del edificio y la ropa de cama y las toallas limpias.

We came in for a Sunday roast. A family of 4 which we had booked the previous week. The restaurant and pub were both very busy, but this was a good sign. The ambience was spot on with music playing in the bar area. Our food and drinks order were taken and drinks were promptly delivered. We all had a roast which not only looked amazing but tasted just like a home cooked roast. Highly recommend for a really superb Sunday lunch.

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! Never have I stayed in such an ill equipped place in my life. No restaurant and no hot water. No offer of apology or compensation for the lack of facilities that were advertised at the time of booking. I was told that the establishment had been purchased from Red Cat in the days prior to my arrival, since the purchase Red Cat decided to close the restaurant. Even so the level of decor and hygiene was a problem long before this. I hope the new owners turn this place around. I wish them. Luck, they WILL need it.
