Residence Inn King of Prussia

The good: brand new hotel, clean and comfortable, right off the interstate. In fact it's so new the parking lot isn't finished yet. The bad: the check-in clerk outright refused to give me an upgrade to a larger room when the hotel was not sold out. I reminded her that I have Marriott Gold Elite status, and she still would not upgrade me. What is the point of obtaining Marriott Elite status if I can never get an upgrade? How is it that these desk clerks can do whatever they want in determining upgrades? Why wouldn't she upgrade me? I guess I have to assume its either because of my age or because I'm a woman, or both. When traveling on his own, my husband, who doesn't even have Marriott Silver Status, gets upgraded routinely at Marriott properties. Not only would the check-in clerk at the Residence Inn King of Prussia not upgrade me, but she put my husband and I in one of the smallest rooms on the floor (see photo). We then went out to dinner and when we returned to the hotel later that night the parking lot was not full and a number of the rooms were dark from outside. When we went to the front desk to let the same check-in clerk know that she should have upgraded us, and we knew that the hotel had empty rooms, she said she didn't any upgrades and couldn't explain how she made this decision, and I said I knew she was lying. This has happened at other Marriott properties since I obtained Gold Status. I've long been a loyal Marriott member - for about 30 years - but I may move over to Hilton if I keep being treated this way.

Seems like a new hotel. Room was not ready when we arrived after 5 even though guaranteed for 4. Room was very spacious, clean. Standard appointments that you would expect from a residence inn. AC was loud. Bathroom was also large. Breakfast was the usual basics.
