Launard House

1970’s time warp! Overall feel was uncared for and tatty. First impressions were worrying! Peeling paint on garage doors, plastic flowers in tub by front door and grey gaffer tape covering a keyhole on front door. As soon as we arrived we were asked what we wanted for breakfast the following day, the menu was displayed in discoloured plastic pockets in an A4 ring binder on the hall table. Things didn’t improve when we were shown our room! A cramped twin bedded room ( with a broken door handle) with a tiny en-suite. The handbasin was the smallest and lowest we’ve ever seen! The towel ring was coming off the wall, the toilet seat slipped to the side every time you sat on it and the mismatched towels were fit for the rag bag! In fact we went to Kilkenny and bought new bath sheets in Penneys! The dining room was dominated by large tables which meant table sharing was needed. Breakfast was ok, we were given time slots and our food was on the table immediately, I had cereal after the hot food on one morning, goodness knows what would have happened had we been late! Sadly no nice touches, we were there for 3 nights and the room wasn’t serviced, I had to ask for toilet roll! Expect far more for the price we were charged, sadly by far the worst stay of our 5 location road trip.

The B & B is situated in a residential area, some 20 to 30 minutes from the city centre. However, it is very easy to walk to the centre. The room was reasonable sized, however furniture is quite outdate. The room was clear and toiletries were change when asked. There was also tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The B & B also offered complimentary breakfast which included a hot plate, toast, juice and tea/coffee. The host was very help both during and after our stay (by prompt answering emails). The only negative was that it was rather expensive.

I booked this for 4 nights, thinking I had stayed there before. I hadnt! The house was nice, the room clean, but hot. No ac, no fan. Asked if they had fans, was provided a tiny (2in diameter) usb fan. Seriously. Had to open window for air, very noisy road nearby plus guest seating area right outside window. Beds were old spring type. Wifi didnt work. Couldnt stay there. Host was very understanding even helped with alternatives and ensured we could cancel without any fee. If we had a room to the back, away from road, with window that could open for air and a standing fan, that would probably have done. Instead we booked into Rivercourt hotel opposite Kilkenny castle, into a much bigger room for same price. It was second floor, with windows that could open ie privacy and cooling and they had proper standing fans. Only NewPark Hotel has ac and only in a few rooms.

Stayed here over a weekend the host was a very professional and courteous gentleman. We stayed in a room at the top of house was very comfortable the only criticism was there was heavy rain we could hear it against the window. Also just note hot water for shower wasn't always warm. Breakfast was top class everything cooked fresh. Porridge and Poached Eggs were the best. Well done we will be back Thank You.

Having traveled to several countries in the past few weeks, we were delighted to discover this clean, quiet, quaint abode with a delightful host/owner. David provided us with lots of helpful information and good conversation in addition to a delectable made-to-order full Irish breakfast (plus many other options) each morning. It's a short, easily managed, safe walk to the heart of town and all the action, including the Medieval Mile. Without a doubt, we will stay here again upon our return to Kilkenny.

Clean quiet & comfortable B & B. Kilkenny is a beautiful town, & this locale is away from the hustle & bustle. Owner gave great recommendations for places to eat & drink downtown. Couldn't ask for more.
