Battle Creek Lodge

I was told on the phone that the room was small, and because our plan was to attend the Mt Rushmore evening ceremony and only stay one night, I decided that should be fine for the time we were in the room. It was very small, and oddly arranged. The TV and Frig were on a dresser on the side of the bed. That would have worked if their positions were changed since to see TV, it was necessary to lay on the bed and look straight across to the left. That only worked for one person, so I sat on the one wooden chair. The microwave had it's own stand on the opposite side of the room. It would have been better to have that included somehow with the frig and TV, and clear some floor space. My husband and I had to switch bed sides for sleeping, since he felt like he was going to roll out onto the floor on his side. He felt the springs were not supporting him. I did not realize there would be stairs, and we managed them fine, but others may not. The plus was easy parking in front, easy access when given the room number and electronic lock combination over the phone, and being able to walk to restaurants. There was juice, muffins, and scones provided in the lobby for breakfast. The lobby was interesting with a collection of items for sale. It was interesting to learn the building originally was a fire station, and that probably had something to do with the room configuration. Perhaps other bigger rooms may have worked better for us.

Although we live in South East SD, we go to The Hills every summer--at least ten times. If you don't stay with the wonderful folks at the Battle Creek Lodge, you are doing it wrong. Outstanding spot--they are always making improvements! Excellent proprietors--they are truly a joy. If I was leaving for The Hills tomorrow I'd call them right away!

Caught in a rain storm, Battle Creek lodge was recommended. Not a big lodge but very well kept, clean and very reasonably priced. Large bathroom, comfy towels and shower hat amazingly hot water and great water pressure. Owner was very pleasant and helpful. I would definitely stay here again !!

By far the best place and people to stay with. Tammy and Cine are always so kind and loving to anyone who stays with them. We won't stay anywhere else when we come to the black hills area. Cabins are always so clean and cozy and you can't beat the scenery. Just a perfect weekend getaway!

On the way there that day, I got a text message that they do NOT want to accept us. First of all, I called them the day I booked this room which was in July and I told them that there were two adults and a child. I talked to one of the owners named Tammy, she said it was OK. That call was recorded. After I booked, I wrote a note and said we had two service dogs in July. Then I got a text message, not even an apology call and stating they didn’t want to accept us on the afternoon that we were trying to check in. I immediately called them, the same lady said she was Susan instead Tammy this time and denied that we had a conversation about booking the room that she was OK with 2 adults and a son. She was nasty and a liar. They refused us because we had service animals which was against law. They are rude on the phone and liars. You must be crazy staying there under these people’s care. The owners are dishonest, nasty and liars.

If u like complete high lifestyle this place isnt for you. But if u like a nice cozy cabin with a home like feeling then this is your place to stay. My family and i stayed at the eagle view and we loved it. Also nothing beats a nice stay if owners and managers are friendly and there again they get an A+
