We recently stayed at the Butler Arms Hotel and unfortunately we will not be making a return visit under the current management or ownership. The appearance of the hotel is extremely tired and the bedroom that we occupied needs a full refurb with very dated and shabby decor and in-room facilities (instant coffee sachets!). While the food was tasty and well presented, having booked dinner as part of our stay, the €50 allowance per person against the a la carte menu struck us as very low in proportion to the overall cost of our overnight package and the poor condition of our room. The Butler Arms seems to be attempting to operate under its previous, historic reputation but currently is falling very short of that.

Unique type of place reminiscent of the Hamptons, etc. Reminds me of that place in the movie Dirty Dancing. They had the Charlie Chaplin Restaurant and I think Chuck is supposed to have frequented this place or slept here or something. The included breakfast had about five or six choices from the menu and was great. Nice looking place with fantastic sunset water views from our room. Very nice rooms and bathrooms. On the slightly negative side: All of the electronic locks on the room doors had bare wiring and the batteries exposed. (Photo) Kind of schlocky for such a nice place. The shower controls were horrible. No grab bars except for when using the tub. Very slippery. Not enough to keep me from going back. Overall, a positive experience.

Beautiful setting overlooking the water. However, this once amazing hotel has deteriorated recently - apparently they are under new management….the magic is gone. Waitress at breakfast was fabulous - however food was lacking. The scrambled eggs had been microwaved, this should not be happening in a 4 star hotel! Despite being in the newer wing of the hotel, paint was peeling off the walls. The detergent used for their sheets brought me out in a rash on my hands & neck, not good. Staff left our room door open, so we came back worried that we had been robbed. Old wing uninhabitable, we were shown to a room there first and it stank of must. So disappointed as this hotel was such a gem.

Our stay at the Butler Arms hotel was very enjoyable. We had a gorgeous and spacious room that was clean and serviced well. The restaurant and staff were great, and we enjoyed the dinner we had there. Michael at the front desk was fantastic, and gave us many ideas for things we should do while in the area. Should we return to Waterville, we would certainly stay at the Burlet Arms again.

The fact that this place has such a long and interesting history should be enough reason for a visit, let alone the spectacular setting. It is right on the beach, overlooking the ocean. Breakfast was included and was really good. Our room was spacious and spotless. But while I appreciate this being traditional, I think it might benefit from some updates here and there. There is definitely some wear and tear that could be easily fixed. But the WiFi was very slow, and spotty at best (and I did actually need it for work). It was warm and AC is probably not usually a necessity in the part of the world. Most importantly though, it was really loud. You really hear everything your neighbors are doing. That said, maybe a little room for improvement, but overall a really lovely stay. And I highly recommend should you be in the area.

Went there for dinner on a Sunday night , Very friendly and helpful staff nice menu, perhaps a little pricey but isn't every where in Ireland recently, had prawn starter beautiful enough to share, had haddock mains ,cooked to perfection. Only problem potatoes and vegetables extra which I thought a little mean considering main was around 40 euros, wine list was very expensive when I looked around the dining room most tables were drinking the 2 cheapest on the list the second cheapest I had was super

This is a fabulous location and our room had an amazing view to the town and sea. The room was large and very comfortable. The overall décor in the hotel is lovely with ample areas , indoors and outdoors , to sit and relax . Staff were very friendly . Good breakfast. Our only small issue was that the main bar was very basic and lacked atmosphere.

A very tasty, well priced and fun dinner at the Butlers Arms, in a lovely dining room, looking out at the Atlantic Ocean. Oysters, Crab Cakes, Turbot. Pork Belly- all perfectly cooked and beautifully paired, washed down with an affogato to finish. The wine list was also interesting and fairly priced. And the meal was lovingly brought together by cheery and attentive service from Lauren, Alina, Eliza and Maeve. Will definitely be back next time we're in town. Thank you !

I went for a drink to the bar attached to the Butler Arms Hotel with three friends at 8.30pm on a quiet evening in mid June. The bar was very quiet other than 3 people sitting at the bar and 2 people at a table. The only person behind the bar was a girl who told me to wait when I said hello. When she finally came back to take my order (As I thought) she ordered me to sit at the table with my friends and she would come to me. After 10 minutes waiting to be served we decided to leave. The bar was cold and lacking in atmosphere. We will not be back. Happy days with the Huggards when this bar was packed to the gills and service was top class.
