Miss Sophie Younger made our dining experience superb, I cannot thank her enough for her maitre d' care and warm hospitality. This was our first visit to this beautiful hotel that is in a delightful building. We will be back as soon as possible.

My daughter took me for an overnight stay in this fabulous hotel and it did not disappoint: we enjoyed some excellent meals with attentive but discreet service. Our room was well appointed and very comfortable. It would have benefitted from somewhere to sit with a mirror to help while drying our hair and applying makeup. We also had two treatments in the spa (facials, £160 each) which were lovely but expensive. It wasn't great seeing the therapists arriving in their coats while we sat waiting in our robes. Then to overhear remarks about confusion over the start time of our appointments leading to the rooms not being properly set up before welcoming us in to quickly start out facials. My therapist was quite brusque initially. It gave a poor start to the session which wasn't helped by the soothing music having to be switched on once we had entered the treatment room and then it 'skipping' and crackling during the beginning of the treatment. I've had better beauty treatment experiences for much less cost. The spa area and pool however was a gorgeous environment.

Rooms are gorgeous - comfy beds, good quality linen, modern and spacious bathrooms with powerful showers and great air con units/temp control. Spa is just perfect - the relaxation area is great, as is the pool and there are jacuzzis and sauna options too. Only thing I would change is just having a bigger pool to do proper lengths. It was our babymoon and lots of pregnant coiples visiting, its very pregnancy friendly and offers maternity massages. Restaurant food is lovely too and kids menu is good fresh food too for anyone with children. I would go down earlier for breakfast though as food does run out and they do stop serving at the eggs station and food to order dead on breakfast closing time. Would be lovely if kitchen staff were a bit more accommodating as we ordered at 2 minutes past and were told they would not do any food to order which seems a tad overkill, especially as we were told that was just last seating time not the end of breakfast food completely.

Came for an overnight stay as a surprise for my wife’s 40th. All I can say is WOW! Rooms were great size and nicely decorated. Spa was something else. Spent a couple hours down here. We went for dinner at Charlie’s, which was good. The breakfast is in this restaurant too. Breakfast was really good, lots of options. They done these wee praline pastries which are a reason to go back alone!! There is lots of little nooks and crannies for sitting around the hotel. Kind of felt like a stately home. After dinner we sat and had drinks in an area near the reception, that looked like a library. The barman there was good. Great knowledge of whisky! On finding out it was my wife’s 40th, we got a couple of drinks on the house too, which was a nice touch! Noticed a few people with dogs, so assume it is pet friendly too. All in all, absolutely 100% want to come back here at some point.

Loved staying here. It’s a beautiful location and the hotel is in a lovely park, including the golf course. My room was lovely and well equipped. Breakfast was excellent and I enjoyed drinks and snacks in the bar. Staff were friendly and helpful

This is our second visit to this hotel in 2 months which probably sums up how much we enjoyed it. This is a high end luxury hotel, so much attention to detail, from the guided tour of the hotel by Charlie when we arrived, to keeping the modern hotel in keeping with the old. The hotel and spa are beautiful and relaxing. The rooms are clean and modern. The spa is tastefully decorated and so relaxing, we even got up early to enjoy the spa at 7am when it open so we were the only ones in! The breakfast was amazing, so much choice and having eggs cooked fresh pretty much anyway you wanted was a nice touch. The staff were friendly and very accommodation, nothing was a problem. Probably the best hotel we've stayed in...we'll be back again. Thank you

We came here for 3 nights right after our wedding as a little relaxing 'Mini-moon'. This venue is exactly what we were looking for - Delicious food, cocktails and chilled atmosphere. We chose to stay in the courtyard deluxe (Room 19) and this was the perfect balance of being part of the hotel but not in the hotel, Although the room was spacious & beautiful the mattress on the bed was awful. Not what you would expect from a hotel with such a high standard, I would imagine that this is just a problem with a small number of rooms but when you pay such a significant amount you would not expect the beds in the spa to give you a better sleep than the ones in your room. I would not let the above stop me from returning to Schloss and trying a different room as everything else was absolutely perfect and more than we could have asked for! The staff were very kind and helpful and the spa is heaven!

Amazing experience on the grounds of a historic castle. The staff is incredibly friendly and worked hard to provide the best service possible. The castle and grounds are gorgeous. We were there for a wedding and it was magical. The food, the setting, the entire weekend was so enjoyable!

We have been here for lunch a few times over the past three years whilst holidaying in the Borders, usually in the autumn and have enjoyed the experience, accepting the higher charges as part of the expected high standard promised. Not so today however, we were looking forward to a return visit, how very very disappointing it was; no atmosphere in the now rather sparse looking bar area, service not great and food not good at all. Very overpriced for small portions which sadly lacked flavour. Having expressed our displeasure we were offered (after waiting a fair time) only the service charge to be deducted, still leaving what we consider to be an expensive bill to be paid. I had hoped to book a spa day at the hotel as I have done previously whilst my husband enjoyed fishing tuition but will not now be doing so. Safe to say we will be removing this venue from our ‘places to eat’ list for future holidays.
